SWU has two opening for Facilities Technician and are hiring ASAP. These are regular, 12-month, non-exempt, salaried jobs located at SWU's main campus in Central, SC.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Southern Wesleyan University Facilities Services Department strives to provide a safe, clean and comfortable living and learning environment for the students, faculty and staff of the university. In conformance with a variety of university standards, Facilities Services completes tasks related to general facilities and grounds maintenance. Facilities Technicians assist in various duties related to repairing, remodeling and landscaping of the university property. This position reports to the Director of Facilities Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Proper handling of work orders; performing necessary repairs and maintenance.
  2. Assistance with daily vehicle pool reservations. (includes the collection of vehicles for fueling, and servicing for redistributing.
  3. Assistance with the preparation of the facility for incoming faculty/staff and the relocation of faculty/staff. (includes painting, remodeling and moving furniture).
  4. Working with others on special projects, either in new construction or remodeling.
  5. Working with outside contractors as directed.
  6. Monitoring and maintaining inventory of shop tools and supplies; following proper purchase order procedures when purchasing.
  7. Assistance with special functions or activities to include setup and takedown for campus events.
  8. Assist in maintaining athletic fields, cross country track, golf facilities and intermural field which include, but not limited to: cutting grass and trimming, weed and ant control, removal of trash, lining of fields as required, fertilize, top dress, over seed and replace or install new equipment.
  9. Assist in lawn care which includes, but not limited to: mowing grass, bush hog fields, weed eat, edge sidewalks, weed and ant control, fertilize, over seed, blow off sidewalks after every cutting and every storm.
  10. Assist with the supervision of work study students assigned to you and see that all safety policies are being followed.
  11. Assisting other technicians as necessary to complete daily tasks & projects.
  12. Assistance with the preventive maintenance schedule of the campus facilities (can include painting the interior and exterior of the facilities, summer maintenance of the student facilities, interior and exterior lighting areas).
  13. Assistance in providing a clean work environment, which includes sweeping, cleaning shop/work area, hauling off excess trash and debris.
  14. Assistance with repairs, special projects, or other activities as assigned by the Director of Facilities Services that support the mission and objectives of the university.

About our ideal candidate

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A high school diploma or GED is required. Due to the varying nature of the work environment, a minimum of three years of work experience related to this position is preferred.
  2. Candidate should have basic training in the trades of carpentry, electrical, sheetrock, painting, and plumbing, mower operation, tree trimming/pruning, and irrigation systems.
  3. Preferred knowledge in reading blue prints, experience in maintenance or building and general lawncare.
  4. SWU is committed to maximizing the use of technology in its daily operations and in achieving its strategic goals; the ideal candidate should be familiar and comfortable with mobile and PC applications including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel}. Computer technology is utilized for communicating via emails and maintaining the level of work orders on a daily basis and the completion of written reports that may be required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  1. Mission and Lifestyle Expectations. The university is a Christian liberal arts institution in the Wesleyan-Holiness theological tradition. In light of SWU's unapologetically Christ-centered mission, all employees are expected to embrace the university's Statement of Faith, respect its Wesleyan heritage, and adhere to its lifestyle expectations.
  2. Physical/Environmental Requirements. This position requires strenuous activities from time to time and is classified as heavy work, which involves lifting up to 50 pounds. The work environment includes inside and may be required to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
  3. Safety Requirements. As an employee of the Facilities Services Department it is imperative that all safety procedures are carried out as outlined in its policies (for example, lockout/tag out, hazard communication, personal protection equipment, spill prevention, and much more). These are available in the Director's office for review. All new employees will go through a safety orientation. A valid driver's license is required.
  4. Hours of Operation. The Facilities Services Department operates on a 40-hour per week work schedule, but may require work outside of the regular schedule in an emergency and/or during special events.
  5. Pre-employment Screening. Employment is contingent on the completion a criminal background screening.
