Job Description:


BASIC FUNCTION:


The Assistant Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator serves as a resource and an advocate for students by representing the needs of students to University staff, faculty, and administrators. Serves as a student conduct officer, chair the CARE team, and advises, counsels and refers students to resources in response to concerns expressed. This includes assisting in clarifying the University's expectations of student behavior both on and off-campus.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Serve as a Title IX Coordinator for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Serve as chair of CARE team - provide oversight of the team, manage the CARE report assignment process, weekly meetings, and serve as a case manager for students experiencing behavioral difficulties, mental health concerns, academic struggles, etc.
  • Assist the Associate Dean of Students in the daily management of student conduct cases and serve as university hearing officer.
  • Support Wellness Coordinator and Dean of Students Office in implementing bystander intervention programs and trainings for the university. Work with student leader groups and Center for Student Development/First Year Transitions Course to coordinator training around Title IX, university policy, and resources on and off campus.
  • Maintain regular contact with the Office of Safety and Security. Attend weekly Weekend review meetings. Develop close relationships with faculty members to ascertain and fulfill training and resource needs.
  • Provide education to students who move off campus into Newport, RI and the surrounding communities. Advocate for student needs, including transportation, dining, parking and facilities.
  • Assist students in clarifying the University's expectations for behavior on and off campus. Coordinate student conduct investigations and hearings for off campus students under the direction of the Dean of Student's Office. Collaborate with Safety and Security, and local police departments regarding these cases. Develop programs and services for students living off campus, including maintaining a website and enhancing social media efforts. Collaborate with other offices/services for students who live in Newport and the surrounding areas. Interface regularly with students living off campus.
  • Work closely with local and statewide community agencies concerning town/gown issues.
  • Ensure cooperative relations between off-campus students and the community.
  • Assists in the review and management of the student handbook, the student code of conduct, and emergency on call/crisis protocols.
  • Assist students with Leave of Absence processes, including medical leaves.
  • Serve as liaison between the University, local law-enforcement agencies, and city officials regarding "town-gown" matters concerning students living off-campus. Coordinate and maintain the Salve Regina/Newport Community Partnership, comprised of local officials (elected officials and police in both Newport and Middletown), other stakeholders, and the University. Work closely with University Relations in this area.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist other Student Life staff, when needed.
  • Serve in the on-call rotation with senior level staff.
  • Serve on University-wide committees, as requested.
  • Perform such other duties as may be requested by the Associate Dean of Students.

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.



Requirements:


Master's degree in educational administration, student personnel, or related area, and/or demonstrated record of successful educational administration required. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a higher education setting in student affairs. Must be able to work effectively with college population, particularly women, have sound oral and written communication skills, and experience in judicial affairs. Must possess strong interpersonal skills. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Must possess good judgement and leadership ability in dealing with students. Computer literacy with experience in a Windows based environment preferred.
