Job Summary

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Assistant Professor of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (tenure track) in the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). The Department welcomes applications from individuals who are prepared to teach core courses and electives. The normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester with advising and mentorship, program assessment and community service responsibilities. Faculty may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Competitive candidates will be student-centered, effective teachers who will also be expected to engage in research, academic advising and mentorship, and community service. Familiarity with SACSCOC accreditation standards and program assessment is needed.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the faculty member include:
  • A normal teaching load of 12 hours per semester;
  • Student advising and mentorship
  • SACSCOC program assessment
  • Scholarship/creative disciplinary activities
  • Professional growth and development
  • Community service

Faculty may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Homeland Security; Emergency Management; Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Or, Ph.D. in Public Administration / Public Policy with a concentration in Homeland Security and/or Emergency Management is required;

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate should
  • Have experience teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in emergency management and homeland security.
  • Demonstrated field experience at the local, state, or federal level in Homeland Security.
  • Demonstrate experience in GIS.
