Job Summary

The Custodian I performs custodial services inside and outside of building structures for the university ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This is a universal cleaning position that has the capability of working in residential and academic spaces.

Responsibilities

The Custodian reports directly to the Custodial Foreperson and performs daily custodial services requirements provided within assigned zone area(s), including
    Clean various building room types and surfaces (i.e.) restrooms, offices, lobbies, entrances, stairwells, laboratories, elevators, floors, medical areas, etc. Clean, scrub, sweep, pick up, wipe, wash, dust, polish all common interior/exterior areas including walls, handrails, fixtures, woodwork, ceilings, furniture, light fixtures, appliances, picture frames, mirrors, water fountains, switch covers, and shelving, etc. Clean, restocks all fixtures (toilet paper, towels, soap, and sanitizer) and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms, laundry rooms, and locker areas. Clean facility designated kitchenette, exterior and interior of stove, refrigerator, sink, counter tops, cabinets and drawers. Provide litter pick-up to all building exterior areas (including lawns, flowerbeds, sidewalks, parking lots, patios/porches, public seating, waste receptacles and window ledges. Utilizing various equipment (vacuum cleaners, floor machines, etc.), apply proper cleaning techniques for vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, stripping and waxing, dusting, spot cleaning, scrubbing, and disinfecting. Demonstrates compliance with quality assurance inspection results for assigned zone(s); Maintains appropriate inventory supply levels and requests re-orders for assigned zone area(s) Responsible for insuring that the key rings are secure at all times and checked in at the end of each shift. Responsible for adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures; must wear safety gear in performing tasks such as wearing safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing when appropriate. Demonstrate excellent customer service for internal and external customers Report to Work Order Clerk all emergencies damages, fixtures/furniture losses, maintenance needs, equipment repairs, and safety issues. May be required to perform job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this position.


* Incumbent holds a position that is considered essential when emergency situations take place on campus. Essential personnel are required to respond to campus (weather and safety permitting) to oversee critical functions during university emergencies and closures.

Required Qualifications
    Must be able to read, write, understand and take direction in English High school diploma or general educations degree, GED 3 years of cleaning, Custodial/Janitorial experience Ability to bend, stoop, load, carry, ascend/descend stairs, climb ladder (up to 10 to 12 feet above the floor), push and pull. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds Ability to operate tools, and use cleaning chemicals according to safe work practices Must be able to work variable shifts and overtime at different locations Must have a valid GA Driver's License
