Position Summary

This position works directly with the Director of ComArtSci Health and Risk Communication Center (HRCC), to plan, coordinate, and execute specific activities based upon desired outcomes. The position is an in-person position.

Located in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University, the Health and Risk Communication Center (HRCC) serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research connections and serves as a go-to for specialized knowledge and expertise on all aspects of health, environment, science, and risk communication processes. The mission of the HRCC mirrors the research, teaching, and public engagement/outreach mission of MSU. The HRCC works with professionals outside the college, advising medical organizations, local and state government, and non-governmental organizations on a variety of health and risk related issues.

Expectations include:

  • Support all operational aspects of the Center, including assisting the director with planning, managing research fellowships, events, yearly survey preparation, the educational mission of HRCC, etc.
  • Lead HRCC communication activities, especially website updates and proactive communications (including listserv and email management), and promotion of center faculty and student research and events.
  • Assist with grant and project proposal development, including narrowing funding searches by reading requests for proposals and reviewing content.
  • Support and coordination of Research Core activities and communication among core faculty
  • Lead the planning and execution of all the Center events including the annual Day of Innovation and Insights
  • Interface with external groups and attend meetings on behalf of Director
  • Maintain intellectual/content of website and all promotional materials, ensure boilerplate and all center assets are up to date and be able to connect affiliate faculty with resources.
  • Documentation and collection of HRCC (and core) deliverables, monitoring and evaluation of center activities; write annual report with appendices
  • Advertise and recruit for Iris Scholars translational scholarship program; set and manage Iris Scholars work schedules; meet with faculty to promote Iris Scholars involvement in the center https://hrcc.cas.msu.edu/student/iris.html
  • Coordinate student employees of the center
  • Assist HRCMA program with organization of alumni event(s)
  • Lead management of the HRC Message Vault, a repository of resources created by the center faculty Including: monitor faculty activity that could be part of repository, field email requests and troubleshooting requests about repository, upload data to the repository, publicize the repository and keep all curation up to date.
  • Assist with center activities as needed

  • One year experience with research and funding processes and institutions.
  • Traits of a successful candidate include independent worker, self-motivated, detail oriented, adaptable, excellent organization skills, reliable, effective and efficient problem solver, ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous projects, ability to communicate well with diverse audiences – especially MSU faculty, graduate students, and administrative leadership.
Desired Qualifications
  • Adobe InDesign.
  • Highly proficient with: Microsoft office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
