POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR - NEUROLOGICAL ONCOLOGIST

A Postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Neurological Oncology Laboratory (Bota, PI) at the Department of Neurology, University of California, Irvine. The candidate should have a recent Ph.D. in biomedical sciences and expertise in cancer biology, molecular biology, and animal tumor models. The applicant would participate in studies investigating novel strategies to limit glioblastoma tumor growth and to overcome resistance to current therapies.

The Bota Lab is renowned for expertise in translational neuro-oncology research. The overarching mission of the Bota Laboratory is to further develop novel chemotherapeutic and immune-based therapies for the treatment of glioblastoma. The laboratory has a proven track-record of obtaining competitive R01 funding. They use patient-derived GBM cells and glioma stem-like cells (GSCs), PDX models, organoids, to study mechanisms of GBM treatment resistance and invasion.

Potential projects in the Bota Lab include:
  • Development of CAR-T cell-based therapies for GBM
  • Patient-derived GBM organoid models
  • Development of mitochondrial-targeted therapies for GBM

    Requirements:
  • Recent or anticipated PhD or equivalent degree
  • Experience in cancer biology, neuroscience, and/or immunology is desirable
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Collaborative: performs as a team member with good interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • Contribute to grant writing

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Applicants who have knowledge of brain tumors, mitochondrial biology, immunology, CAR-T cell development, and pre-clinical drug testing are especially encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will be self-motivated, team players, and have a passion for science.
