Reports To: Associate Director, Student Health and Counseling Services

Position Overview: Oversee programming and outreach particularly directed to students at risk and international students. Provide individual psychotherapy sessions to SVA students and be an active member of the Student Health and Counseling Services team. Provide short-term psychotherapy sessions for undergraduate and graduate international students. Take an active role in crisis intervention as required. Conduct case management and outreach for students at risk and international students. Coordinate mental health programming for international students. Create and conduct trainings for staff, faculty and Resident Assistants. Conduct mandated sessions for students. Actively participate in biweekly case meetings with Student Health and Counseling Services team. Maintain relationships with outside referral sources and develop the diversity of community-based referral resources for international students. Attend conferences, lectures and coursework as needed. Contribute to Student Health and Counseling Services' reports as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide counseling services and assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of students to maximize their well-being and academic functioning
  • Provide individual psychotherapy sessions for undergraduate and graduate SVA students and take active role in crisis intervention; interview students individually to determine the services required to meet their needs.
  • Perform risk assessments and meet individual with students who are deemed "at-risk" due to mental health concerns and who have had recent involvement with psychiatric facilities and hospitals.
  • Contribute to reports containing assessments of students on therapy sessions and evaluations.
  • Create and host mental health programming
  • Develop information and materials such as worksheets, handouts, and program plans for mental health and counseling services and mental wellness topics such as how to manage grief, anxiety, and stress.
  • Develop and conduct programs aimed specifically with the undergraduate and graduate student demographic.
  • Conduct trainings for staff and faculty members to promote wellness of college students to create a supportive environment for students.
  • Provide the college staff with information to help them understand the factors that may affect student performance and behavior.
  • Perform follow-up and case management for students as required
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams may be necessary to connect students with community resources.
  • Actively participate in bi-weekly case meetings with Student Health and Counseling Services
  • Plan, design, implement, and evaluate progress, improvements needed, and overall wellness check of SVA's health and counseling services to better serve the needs of students.
  • Discuss social and economic factors, and cultural differences that can influence a college setting and environment and determine how to create an inclusive and safe environment for students.
  • Attend conferences, lectures, and coursework as needed

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Social Work or related field plus three (3) years of clinical experience.
  • Must be a licensed health care provider in the New York State.
  • Must have crisis intervention experience.
  • Must have clinical experience working with adolescents and young adults.
  • Experience in working with international and diverse populations
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
