About us:

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which plays a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $53.3 million in research funding per year, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change, implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas. This past year, $10 million philanthropic dollars was raised for research, education and knowledge translation, and the over 7000 alumni were deeply engaged through events and networking opportunities.

Your opportunity:

CanPath is Canada’s largest population health cohort and a national platform for population-level health research. CanPath is studying the biology, behaviours and environments of Canadians to learn more about the causes of chronic disease and cancer for the good of our country and people around the world.

As the CanPath Data Manager, you will manage and coordinate the manipulation and integration of CanPath’s pan-Canadian health databases. You will provide consultation on the feasibility of proposed analytical methods for projects requesting CanPath data and translate data requests into relevant terms for the CanPath platform. You will design, implement and report on performance and quality assurance metrics related to the delivery of data. As the CanPath Data Manager, you will ensure high quality data is provided to the research community.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Maintaining, integrating and manipulating large databases
• Identifying and resolving systemic data integrity issues
• Providingconsultative advise on data requirements and developing program scripts to extract, reformat and analyze data
• Developing data quality control procedures and components of data auditing programs for quality assurance purposes
• Producing complex statistical information
• Developing methods to optimize the use of data and processing datasets
• Providing information to the research community on data access procedures and guidelines and verifying the eligibility of data applications
• Performing descriptive analysis of data and translating researchers' requests for data into relevant terms for the CanPath platform

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field (i.e. epidemiology, health studies, statistics) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years direct experience analyzing large health-based data sets
• Experience developing data quality control procedures and components ofdata auditing programs for quality assurance purposes
• Experience serving clients who have complex data requests
• Experience identifying and resolving data integrity issues
• Experience developing methods to optimize the use of data
• Experience performing descriptive analysis of data
• Experience using statistical software (R, SAS, MySQL) for sampling, merging, denomination, cross-tabulation and linkage of multiple data sources
• Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of statistical analysis, data mining, data manipulation, project and data management practices.
• Experience developing QC scripts
• Proven ability to prioritize and manage several projects simultaneously, and to respond quickly based on timelines and priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Familiarity with privacy protection procedures and secure data transmissionand storage methods
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills to provide information analysis, advice and guidance.

Assets (Nonessential):

• Experience working in a public health or global health research setting
• Interest in Canadian population health research
• Master's Degree in Statistics, Epidemiology or a related field of study
• Project Management Certification
• Knowledge of Genotyping data, Assays data and quality principles
