Position Information: DescriptionThe Department of Chemistry is seeking a 12-month, post-doctoral research fellow to conduct research on the development and use of molecular electronic structure methods for spatially partitioned systems. The initial appointment will be for one year and is full time and benefitted, with potential for renewal for a second year, pending annual review of performance and continued availability of funding.

The Department of Chemistry in Abbott Hall is well equipped for ongoing research performed by individual faculty and is funded by external funding from the National Science Foundation, ND EPSCoR, PRF ACS and other agencies. Abbott Hall houses 29 laboratories and classrooms, over 30 faculty and student offices including space for modern teaching and research facilities. The UND Computational Research Center has a variety of resources available, including a Skylake-based High Performance Computer cluster.

Duties & Responsibilities
    Use ab initio electronic structure software to characterize interaction of small molecules with extended molecular systems Develop and implement new computational algorithms for using localized functions for embedding subsystemsDevelop new theoretical models for transfer of energy and information across subsystem boundaries Analyze and interpret obtained data as a member of a cross-disciplinary teamDraft manuscripts for publication and proposals for external grantsPresent research data at academic seminars and conferencesMaintain interoperability of new computer codes with existing
Required Competencies
    Highly self-motivated and enthusiastic in researchCapable of working independentlyGood oral and written communication skillsEffective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and studentsAbility to mentor junior team members
Minimum Requirements
    Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, materials science or a related field
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.
