Position Title:Staff Counselor (14113) Department:840482 - Counseling Services Job Posting Description:

SIUE Counseling Services is accepting applications for a full-time Staff Counselor. Counseling Services actively promotes the personal, social, emotional, and cognitive growth of SIUE students with services such as individual and group counseling, healthy living workshops, consultation, and referral. Staff members work closely with faculty, other University departments, public safety officers, health care services providers, and parents to provide valuable mental health resources for our student population.

The Staff Counselor will provide mental health/diagnostic assessment, life skills counseling, and psychotherapy assessments as well as individual therapy and group therapy for students of the university. The selected candidate will also serve as a Counseling Services liaison to an assigned Housing residence hall. Other routine duties for the Staff Counselor will include:
-Maintain client charts, write reports, and perform other administrative work.
-Provide clinical supervision to practicum students, graduate assistants and interns.
-Offer clinical input during case conferences psychiatric meetings and case dispositions.
-Work with various employees of the university to provide consultation regarding students when needed.
-Refer, consult, and coordinate care between Counseling Services and other campus departments as well as community resources in order to meet clinical needs of students appropriately and ensure continuity of care.
-Provide crisis intervention and consultation when needed.

Additionally, the Staff Counselor will be expected to participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities to maintain licensure and attend department staff meetings as scheduled. Other duties related to the professional scope of this position may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the department. This position requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to unpredictable situations and a diverse clientele. Ideal candidates will have well-developed social and communication skills and the ability to work independently but seek consultation as needed. Due to the professional needs of the position, on-call and after hours shifts may be required.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

-Master's degree in clinical psychology, social work, counseling or related field from an accredited college or university graduate program.
-Licensed (or licensed eligible) in the state of Illinois.
-Training in DSM V diagnosis and classifications, therapeutic orientations, and treatment modalities required.
-Ability to administer batteries of psychological assessments with appropriate follow-up reports.
-Outreach/presentation skills (e.g., to campus community & professional conferences, psycho-educational workshops) are highly desirable.
-Must possess strong individual, crisis intervention, and group counseling skills.
-Ability to work cooperatively as a clinical team member and strong written and oral communication skills required.
