All employees are required to be fully vaccinated and boosted, if eligible, against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment. *NOTE : Please submit Resume AND Cover Letter to be considered for this position.* POSITION SUMMARY:Under the general supervision from the Associate Vice President of Student Health and Services and the Director of Counseling Services, the New York Film Academy (NYFA) Student Accessibility Services Coordinator/Staff Therapist will provide services related to student access, behavioral health and diversity. Major emphasis will be placed on engaging students with disabilities, providing students registered with Student Accessibility Services access to NYFA classes and programs, and overseeing all functions of the Student Accessibility Office, including evaluating medical documentation and granting accommodations, as necessary under the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended) and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (as amended). The Student Accessibility Services Coordinator/Staff Therapist will also work within Counseling Services to provide education programming, crisis intervention, case management, and individual and/or group counseling to enrolled NYFA students. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.- Manages caseload of students with disabilities and facilitates accommodations on their behalf in collaboration with the Associate Vice President of Student Health and Wellness.Orients new students to the policies and procedures regarding the provision of accommodations and services.Responsible for ensuring NYFAs delivery and effectiveness of disability accommodations for eligible students with disabilities, including ensuring policies and procedures related to accommodations are current.Works collaboratively with faculty, administrators and other campus partners to ensure that members of the University community are receiving the reasonable accommodations for which they are eligible.Responsible for data collection in compliance with NY State Dept of Education.Evaluates client satisfaction and measures outcomes in context of an annual assessment plan.Reviews disability-related documentation, including psychoeducational and neuropsychological reports, engages with students in an interactive process and implements academic accommodations for students with disabilities, as warranted.Consults with health care providers about documentation guidelines and requests clarification when needed and appropriate.Advises students, parents, faculty, and staff on disability issues.Provides case management, short term counseling, crisis intervention and referrals to a diverse student population, under the guidance of the Director of Counseling Services.Conducts intake evaluations and assesses for suicidal/homicidal risk of students seeking Counseling Services and assists Director of Counseling Services in the implementation of wellness services and programming.Maintains confidential records.Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Student Health and Wellness, theDirector of Counseling Services, and senior management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.Strong organizational skills with expertise in planning, problem solving and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.Knowledge of and experience working with individuals with various types of disabilities and operationalizing documented functional limitations into reasonable postsecondary accommodations.Understanding of federal laws and regulations pertaining to Disability including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Amended ADA of 2009 and all other federal/ state and local regulations regarding individuals with disabilities.Skilled in cognitive behavioral and/or dialectical behavior therapies, motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.Ability to assess risk of harm to self/other and implement effective crisis intervention strategies and/or request immediate consultation with supervisors.Demonstrated commitment to student retention.Awareness of a wide array of assistive technologies and resources available to assist students with disabilities.Willingness and flexibility to handle multiple projects at one time during peak times and be able to prioritize based on immediacy.Strong technical and analytical skills to generate accurate utilization reports, trends in service provision, track client caseloads and treatment plans and effectively case manage.Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with careful attention to detail.Ability to maintain clear, informative and timely records of counseling and disability services provided.Ethical / Honest committed to and observant of confidentiality and related privacy laws.
- Masters degree required, preferably in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work.Licensed or licensed eligible mental health counselor in New York State.1-2 years of experience working with students with disabilities within higher education or a similar environment.1-2 years experience, post graduation, providing behavioral health services to college-age populations..Experience working in a fast pace, multi-tasking, results driven environment with attention to detail.
- Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Reader, Power Point, VisioFileMaker ProGoogle DocumentsApple Software products (i.e. Mac, etc.)Office equipment including, but not limited to, computer, phone, fax machine, copier and calculator.
- Higher Education Office environment.Sit for long/high periods of time to perform various computer/administrative tasks.Reasonable dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and/or manipulate computer keyboard and other office equipment.Verbally and effectively communicate utilizing face-to-face contact and telephonesLift, carry, push and/or pull documents/boxes weighing up to 20 lbs.Variable schedule to be determined - some weekends and shifts vary between the hours of 8:30am till 6pm.
