Career Coach for Experiential LearningThe Career Coach for Experiential Learning's primary responsibility is to provide programming, resources, and education on internships and other experiential opportunities to undergraduate students. In conjunction with the Volunteer Experience, the coach will offer workshops, manage scholarship programs, create and maintain educational modules, and promote opportunities each related to internships, co-ops, practicum, shadowing, and other related experiential learning areas.



Qualifications
Job Function/Responsibilities:

Experiential Learning Programing and Education:

  • Create and deliver workshops and trainings to student groups related to obtaining internships and other experiential opportunities
  • Provide career coaching to students seek experience learning opportunities
  • Manage co-op approval process for students in select majors
  • Maintain modules related to internships; track student completion of said modules
  • Co-run scholarship programs related to internships, including the Impact Internship Grant and the Congressional Internship Program
  • Liaise to Alumni Affair's ConnectUT platform and promote student usage of the mentoring opportunities within the system
  • Run Big Orange Shadowing Program; recruit and match alumni/employers and students for shadowing opportunities
  • Liaise to departments and programs within the Division of Student Success and Student Life that run internship programs; assists in the development and maintenance of these initiatives
  • Support the Volunteer Experience as the initiative evolves
  • Data and Assessment:
  • Track and collect data on internship completion in the designated system; create and disseminate reports based on this information to administration
  • Create learning outcomes for programs and conduct assessments
Employer and Campus Relations

  • Build relationships with on-campus employers to develop and advertise internship opportunities - Increase employer engagement on campus via participation in events (internship fairs, panels, networking events, etc.)
  • Educate employers on best practices related to internships
PROVIDE GUIDANCE & DIRECTION VIA STAFF SUPERVISION & LEADERSHIP:

  • Provide limited direction and assistance to Peer Career Advisors and practicum/intern students.
OTHER DEPARTMENT, DIVISION, AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Departmental: Assist in other office activities, events, and programs that are in line with the center's mission, including career fairs, orientation, visit days, etc., and community outreach.
  • Divisional: Participate in division activities that are in line with overall mission of Student Success Professional: Hold membership and participate in professional organizations that are aligned with the center, division's and university's mission.
Required:

    Master's degreeOne academic year experience (which could include graduate assistantships) that meets one of the following: working with college students; working with other clients on job search related skills; or working with an internship program.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including oral, written, and listening communication capabilities
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events and programs
  • Strong computer skills.
Preferred:

    One academic year experience (which could include graduate assistantships) working with college students in a setting related to career development, academic advising or student success; Experience working with experiential learning programs.
  • Knowledge of job search strategies and career development theories, best practices, and resources
  • Knowledge of career systems and other current/emerging technologies within the career development field
  • Ability to build relationships across populations, internal and external to the University.
