JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut, Information Technology Services (ITS), is seeking a highly technical and self-motivated GIS/CAD Infrastructure Technician/Administrator (Computer Support Technician 2). The successful candidate is an energetic IT professional who is excited by delivering “best in class” services. Under the direction of the Team Lead for Network Infrastructure, this position is responsible for the management of the University’s wired network/telecommunications infrastructure documentation using document management systems and applications including AutoCAD and ESRI ArcGIS. This service-oriented position is based at the Storrs campus but responsibilities may require travel to all UConn locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administration of CAD/BIM, GIS, and engineering document management systems used by department personnel to record telecommunication and network infrastructure and related data.
  • Responsible for management of University telecommunications and related network infrastructure documentation using CAD/BIM, GIS, Microsoft Visio applications
  • Manage and curate network documentation attribute data in support of integration with other enterprise systems as needed to ensure accuracy, timely updates, and standardization.
  • Compile, format, and generate design documents and reports in support of department teams for operations, planning, presentation, and analytical purposes.
  • Responsible for generating processes and procedures for departmental staff, student technicians, and contracted professional resources to update and maintain network documentation.
  • Train staff as well as train and supervise student technicians and contracted resources in the collection and updating of network infrastructure documentation systems.
  • Serve as a liaison for the exchange of IT/Network and construction documentation with construction project teams and University departments.
  • Work with vendors and department leadership to develop or enhance new systems.
  • Develop plans and processes to ensure the availability of network documentation in field operations by Telecommunications staff and students by mobile electronic means.
  • Contribute to technical projects pertaining to information technology services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of information in compliance with University Information Security Policies.
  • Works independently with guidance from a supervisor.
  • Travel to multiple work locations throughout the state and the ability to lift 20lbs overhead.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree with six years of experience; OR Bachelor’s degree with four years of related experience; OR eight years of related experience as it pertains to computer science, geographical information systems (GIS), management information systems (MIS), GIS/CAD design and drafting or an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of multiple technologies used to document network or other utility systems, infrastructure, specifications, and statements of work in a utility, enterprise, or engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in generating, formatting, organizing, reading, and interpreting technical or construction drawings using AutoCAD or related computer aided drafting applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of productivity software such as Microsoft Office, database query and programming tools to modify, and automate the exchange of data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to interpret end-user needs and act quickly on them.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people, and work collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least one year of experience in IT project management
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, implementation, and administration of geodatabases using ESRI ArcGIS or similar applications to document infrastructure and assets in a utility, enterprise, or related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with exchanging design and construction data.
  • Demonstrated experience with planning, generating, editing, and organizing drawings using Building Information Modeling (BIM) applications such as AutoCAD.
  • Planning and facilitating projects as a member of or leading a team environment.
  • Experience in planning, acquisition, and manipulation of spatial data using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
  • Thorough understanding of file services and system administration concepts.
