This position reports to the Director of Recreation and Chair of Physical Education and is expected to adhere to all NCAA, Patriot League, ECAC Hockey, and Colgate University rules and regulations.

Accountabilities:

Coordinates medical care operations of several designated club sports and oversee the medical administrative responsibilities for the recreation department

Club Sport Medical Administration: (5-8 hour per week)
● Provide guidance on policy and procedures for all high risk sports administration to the department.
● Coordinate and administer all baseline concussion testing for high-risk club sports
● Coordinate and administer all post-concussion tests, as needed and review return to play protocol with individual student to ensure safety entry back into their sport.
● Work directly with University Physician and Student Health Services to ensure students are being seen by SHS.
● Work directly with club sport coaches, club sport student leaders and/or club sport safety officers to ensure they are completing necessary paperwork, trainings, tests, etc.
● Communicate with university physician and administrative sport supervisor regularly regarding student injuries, updates and return-to-play procedures.
● Ensures all pertinent and reported student-athlete injuries are properly communicated to University medical staff and Department of Recreation.
● Ensures all club sport athletes complete their liability/participation waiver.
● Ensures all club sport programs have a designated safety officer who has completed the in-person training and online concussion wise module.
● Ensures club safety officers are submitting injury reports in a timely manner and then determines how to follow-up or direct injured students accordingly.
● Serves as medical contact for all club sport athletes and will refer injured student athletes to the appropriate medical services (i.e. Student Health Services, meeting with ATC, specialist, etc).
● Coordinate medical paperwork and forms for teams traveling domestically or internationally.
● Ensures personal compliance to standards of clinical care, operating under University Physician’s professional license.
● Serve as point of contact for Student First Responder staff.
● Responsible for inventory of all med kits.

Clinical Hours: 5-8 hours per week
● Conduct weekly clinic hours for club sport student-athlete check-ins and/or post-concussion ImPACT tests. 4-6 hours a week, may vary depending on time of year.
● Responsible for the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries under the direction of the University Physician.
● 50% of clinic hours will be prioritized to men’s and women’s rugby during season.
● Serve as a liaison between coaches, student-athletes, administrators, physicians, and parents.
● Responsible for coordinating and direct communication with university physician for assigned sports/programs.
● Ensure personal compliance to standards of clinical care, operating under University Physician’s professional license.
● Complete, independent and unchallengeable decision-making authority regarding all student-athlete participation in any and all sport activities.

First Responder Supervision and Training: (2-3 hours/week)
● Provide oversight and hiring of student First Responder (EMT) staff.
● Supervise regular training of First Responders to ensure preparedness to cover recreational events.

Professional Experience/ Qualifications:

Must be a Certified Athletic Trainer

Education:

Bachelor’s Required
Masters Preferred
