Research Assistant for Clinical Research Studies - Georgetown University Medical Center

Job Overview

The Research Assistant (RA) directly supports primary care and community-based clinical research studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, and works on a research team composed of the Principal Investigator (PI), Project Coordinators (PC), Research Assistant and student research assistants. The RA works closely with the study PC to recruit and enroll area practices and participants, retain participants, obtain informed consent with the PC, conduct data collection, perform data entry, and complete other day-to-day project activities as identified.

Work Interactions

The Research Assistant reports to the PC and PI on all activities and attends project meetings. As needed, the Research receives training on various GU applications - such as Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) - in order to record project activities.

Research Support Duties
  • Procures and manages inventory of research and laboratory supplies
  • Performs substantial local travel to area clinical practices and participant visits as needed
  • Uses research study car for travel to community-based sites, complying with GU policies for such anticipated expenses
  • Tracks travel and related activities, either to be expensed to grant for reimbursement purposes


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree - preference for health or science-related concentration (note: consideration will be given to equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Detail-orientation and analytical background
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in the community


Preferred qualifications
  • Ability to speak Spanish
  • Knowledge of research methods

Upon hire, the Research Assistant must complete training and maintain certifications in Human Subjects Protections, HIPAA and ICH Good Clinical Practice.
