Description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St. Michael’s Hospital in partnership with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, is currently recruiting one (1) full-time qualified academic GYNAECOLOGIST with demonstrated evidence and subspecialty training in Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery (MIGS) focused on Endometriosis. The successful candidate will have an academic position description of clinician educator and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2023, or another mutually agreeable date.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St. Michael’s Hospital is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is part of the Women’s and Children’s Health Program, Unity Health Toronto. The Department is dedicated to patient-centered multidisciplinary care and community health, especially for patients with higher levels of medical and surgical complexity, while also being one of the busiest robotic units for surgical gynaecology in Canada. St. Michael’s Hospital’s corporate merger with St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Providence HealthCare as Unity Health Toronto, has the potential to create collaborative programs in surgical gynaecology. The successful candidate will join a group of 19 physicians: 6 MIGS fellowship trained gynaecologists, 1 urogynaecologist, 7 generalists and 5 fetal maternal medicine specialists.

In alignment with the strategic vision of the hospital and department for MIGS, the preferred areas of clinical care, research and education will be focused on: (1) the management of medically and/or surgically complex patients with benign gynaecologic disorders, (2) the development of a recognized referral centre for medically and surgically complex patients with grade 1 endometrial cancer, and (3) excelling in the surgical care of those experiencing disadvantage.

The successful candidate will be a member of the MIGS division, and practice Gynaecology, with a special emphasis on (but not limited to) patients with endometriosis. Clinical responsibilities will include gynaecology outpatient clinics and surgical gynaecology.

Given the emphasis on the position as clinician educator, the successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiastic participation in all levels of our teaching and education mandate (undergraduate, residency, fellowship) as well as assume responsibilities in educational leadership and research opportunities. Obstetrical practice opportunities may be included depending on the candidate’s preference and departmental resource availability.

Candidates must either be licensed, or be eligible for an independent or restricted academic licence, under the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).

Qualified applicants must either be board-certified (or eligible for certification) in the sub-specialty of Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or have achieved an equivalent level of regulated sub-specialty training in Minimally Invasive Surgery, ideally holding a MSc in a relevant graduate training program.

This position is funded by fee-for-service through the Ontario Ministry of Health.

Applications will be accepted until October 7, 2022, or until the position is filled.

Suitably qualified candidates are requested to apply with a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three referees via email to:
