Description:
Tulane Center for Aging is seeking to hire a faculty in the Research Track as an Instructor with a strong background in molecular genetics and molecular biology, to direct its Genomics Core. This person will be responsible for fulfillment of client-based projects involving Sanger sequencing, Illumina next-generation sequencing, quantitative PCR, scRNAseq, and spatial multi-omics. Tasks include troubleshooting and documentation of omics-based assays. Specifically, pre-planning of projects, DNA/RNA isolation, quality control, and documentation of the results to aid in publication. The Research Instructor will assure appropriate sample setup and preparation support and execution for investigators who are seeking answers to biologically important questions and will integrate with the Tulane Center for Aging Bioinformatics and Molecular Imaging Cores to provide a seamless pipeline for data generation and bioinformatic analysis. This person will also assess new technology in these areas as it develops, track, recommend and implement protocol improvements.
The Research Instructor will also participate in the several research projects in the Tulane Center for Aging, with the goal of developing novel research focus supported by extramural funding. The lab is focused on understanding the influence of aging on a wide range of phenotypes, as well as quantification of biological aging itself.
Qualifications:
A qualified, successful candidate should be self-motivated and detail oriented with a strong background in molecular genetics, molecular biology and have clear oral and written communication skills. Preferred applicants would be willing to work with and guide students, postdocs and technicians, generate publications, contribute to grants, and work in a team to help with the day-to-day operations of the core. Required qualifications include prior publications and hands-on experience in functional genomics with emphasis on the Illumina platform. Preferred qualifications include four years of postdoctoral experience in a laboratory that emphasizes novel applications of next-generation sequencing technologies.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Doctoral degree. Two years of postdoctoral training and research.
