In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and two (2) years experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role OR Associates degree in Computer Science or related field and six (6) years experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role OR eight (8) years with experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role.

Demonstrable experience with large scale systems of storage (SAN, NAS, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, etc) and virtualization (VMware, Citrix).

Demonstrable experience with Linux (Ubuntu, RedHat) and Windows Server (2016, 2019) above the basic system administration level.

Experience with using tools like Wireshark to diagnose protocol issues and identify causes of non-hardware communication failure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with NetApp, Citrix, DeepFreeze Cloud, ADFS, CAS, SAML2, DigitalOcean, Azure.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Systems Engineer reports to the Managing Senior Systems Engineer and/or CIO and performs the following duties:

• Two senior Systems Engineers are working supervisors and share the supervisory role of overseeing the three Systems Engineers and three system administrators.
• Two senior Systems Engineers are responsible for adjusting the workloads of direct reports to accommodate the changing nature of products, servers, services, security responses to CVEs, and the potential threat actors.
• Two senior Systems Engineers are responsible for managing all components of the Current Workload (see above) and assigning work to Systems Engineers and system administrators (direct reports) as needed.
• Two senior Systems Engineers are responsible for performing threat assessment, potential attack surfaces, and the means to defend users and data with regular reporting to the ISO and CIO.
• Addresses all needs related to the twin datacenters' proper operation, including energy and climate controls.
• Assesses all hardware and software acquisition for data centers and critical infrastructure:
o NetApp storage
o Cisco converged architecture
o VMware
o Citrix
• Implements and manages all SSO components to assure access management of college services. (ADFS and CAS)
• Performs all monitoring, assessing, and sizing of infrastructure.
• Performs all threat assessments regarding CVEs and vendor patch releases.
• Provides installation, configuration, programming, and support of college-adopted microcomputer operating systems, server operating systems, microcomputer and server application software, and web deployment software in a large server environment to address the needs and requirements of students, faculty, and staff for items shown by, but not limited to, the following list:
o Responsible for maintenance and security of operating system software, application software, web deployment software, data integrity, user accounts, and virtual environments.
o Implementation of open source and commercially available software for both on-premises and cloud environments.
o Security assessments, performance monitoring, and load balancing.
o Works collaboratively with the infrastructure support staff for maintenance, problem resolution, and upgrade installed college-adopted microcomputer, server, and web deployment software.
o Provides consultative support on microcomputer, server, and web deployment information technology issues to other departmental staff.
o Co-maintain the ACE VDI classroom virtual Windows 10 image (or any other necessary image in Citrix and VMware).
• Provides expert system administration, analysis, design, and programming functions for all server and workstation systems.
• Provides expert application and communications software programming functions for all server and workstation systems.
• Provides expert programming, and scripting for all server and workstation systems.
• Provides expert planning, implementation, and support for the operating system and other software upgrades, authentication services, backup, retention, and recovery procedures, open-source and commercial software integration, and industry standards like LDAP and Radius to enhance enterprise-wide functionality for Unix and Windows server and workstation systems.
• Provides advanced planning, implementation, and support for securing enterprise networks and large-scale server and workstation systems.
• Provides primary supervision of personnel in infrastructure positions and backup supervision of personnel in help desk positions.
• Provides comprehensive technical documentation for server and workstation production environments.
• Provides liaison with vendors for all server and workstation systems for maintenance, problem resolution and upgrades of installed hardware and operating system, application, and communications software.
• Researches and recommends hardware and software for server and workstation products for individual, departmental and institutional use.
• Works collaboratively with the network infrastructure support staff for maintenance, problem resolution and upgrade of installed communications hardware and software and for implementation of network security hardware, software, and procedures.
• Provides consultative support on server and workstation technology issues to other departmental and other college staff.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills with current server and workstation technology systems.
• Performs related duties as assigned by the CIO.

This is a Full-Time position with a salary range of $80,000-$85,000.

Hudson Valley Community College serves approximately 13,500 students each semester, and employs more than 630 full- and part-time faculty members.
