Job Purpose:The Academic Support Center Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating the teams that provide academic support to students including the team of tutors and student mentors.

Location:Remote, various locations throughout California

Salary Range: M-9 Typical beginning range steps 1-3



Position Overview


The Academic Support Center Coordinator will coordinate and assist with the implementation of the day-to-day operations of academic support services programming. The coordinator will collaborate with cross-functional teams and help design student success and equity initiatives that provide additional support to students throughout their Calbright journey. Serving as a point-of-contact to students, faculty, counselors, and administrative staff, the coordinator will help support, manage, and evaluate a team of tutors, peer mentors, and other student support staff.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


The duties below are representative of the role and are not intended to cover all the duties performed within the scope of work.


Academic Support Coordination:

  • Design and implement projects that will contribute significantly to student success and equitable access to resources and services.
  • Collaborate with both instructional and academic counseling faculty and staff to maximize student success and equitable access.
  • Coordinate and lead the academic tutoring team to ensure that students are supported to reach their academic and career goals.
  • Coordinate the peer mentor and tutor program: Assist in the recruitment, hiring, on-boarding of peer tutors; Provide training and on-going guidance and support of peer tutors; Conduct learning opportunities for peer tutors; Monitor and support the professional growth of peer mentors and tutors.
  • Manage and evaluate a team of tutors, peer mentors, and student support staff.
  • Provide information to students on how to effectively navigate college policies and procedures, and access resources.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to raise awareness of the resources and services to increase equitable engagement of students.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help track and analyze student success and equity data.
  • Utilize data and collaborative meetings with counseling and instructional faculty and staff to inform tutors and other team members in providing proactive interventions and supports to promote student persistence, retention, and completion.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine additional opportunities that academic support resources can be integrated to amplify work throughout all parts of the student journey.
  • Serve on cross-functional teams for student development initiatives and programs such as student engagement, career activities, and other special events.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to curate and develop a library of resources to support learning in all pathways.
  • Maintain a comprehensive listing of off-campus referral services and points of contact.
  • Participate in professional development activities, resource development and review, student activities, and committees.
  • Participate in student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration or a field such as career counseling, career advising, with an emphasis in adult learning theory.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in higher education or workforce development. Demonstrated experience in case management, student success efforts, and helping skills.
  • Two (2) years of general supervisory experience.


Desired Qualifications


  • A master’s degree in education, educational psychology, or instructional psychology, or other master’s degree.
  • Supervisory experience in the administration of programs for working in career services or workforce development.
  • Experience coordinating student support services programs including resume writing, branding, and interview preparation.
  • Experience in providing direct services to students in a variety of career pathways.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems, student information systems, and communication and data tools such as Slack, Google Workspace, Calendly, Salesforce.
  • Experience developing and implementing student services programs for a community college including but not limited to student persistence and retention strategies.
  • Experience working with data to prioritize and design needs-based support materials.


Working Conditions and Travel


  • Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely. Calbright College has administrative offices in Sacramento available for use. When working remotely, employees should be able and willing to use digital communication tools as used by the college, and have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.

  • Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
