    The incumbent functions as an Academic Success Coach in the Student Engagement & Achievement (SEA) Center and reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Advising & Retention. The Academic Success Coach helps students develop skills, behaviors and habits that contribute to success in college. These include academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation, and self-efficacy.

    This position will intrusively advise and support identified student cohorts, and/or caseloads in their course of study. In addition, the role will plan, coordinate, monitor and follow-up regarding tutoring, probation support and the satisfactory appeals (SAP). Achieve quantitative targets for retention, student success, and quality metrics on a regular basis. Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a weekly/biweekly basis to support student success. Work with staff and faculty on a regular basis to provide quality support and advisement to assigned student cohorts.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

      Monitors progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students questions, concerns and needsConducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop academic success plansAssists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; works with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic successHelps students in identifying, developing and implementing learning strategies and study skills specific to course materialsRefers students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources and collaborates with others to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the students referredMonitors and meets with various student populations and programs such as, but not limited to: Probation students, Scholarship students, and/or other populations as defined.Collaborates with on-campus departments to assure students receive support they need related to financial aid, orientation, academic advising, and tutoring, and career counseling and other support programing.Provides proactive outreach to at-risk students based on predictive analytics and risk factors.Develops, implements, coordinates, and tracks intervention strategies that enhance student success, as well provide qualitative and quantitative reports.Identifies issues, builds success plans to overcome obstacles, leverages resources for meeting goals, and ensures student accountability.Guides students in effectively navigating school processes to ensure that they meet key deadlines.Achieves quantitative targets for retention, student success, and quality metrics on a regular basis.Teaches courses in the Student Success curriculum (Incumbent must possess a master's degree and demonstrate instructional competency)
    OTHER DUTIES:

    1. Develops tools to tracks student success, engagement, and retention (student success plans). Compiles and presents findings to the Assistant Director of Academic Advising & Retention.
    2. Plans and engages students regarding student success activities such as, but not limited to workshops, campaigns, and other support activities.
    3. Researches and secures educational resources that provide educational support.
    4. Assists with academic advising duties during registration and orientation.
    5. Performs other duties as assigned.
    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

    1. Knowledge of student success and retention principles and practices.
    2. Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
    3. Knowledge of university personnel and budget management policies.
    4. Knowledge of higher education practices and standards.
    5. Knowledge of current and developing trends in student retention and success.
    6. Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.
    7. Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
    8. Skills in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
    9. Skills in oral and written communication.
    GUIDELINES

    Guidelines include the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title III guidelines, and university and Board of Regents policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgement, selection and interpretation in application. This position develops department guidelines.

    • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university staff and students.
    • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons, or to provide services.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. A master's degree or equivalent from an accredited academic institution in Student Services, Education, Counseling, Behavioral or Social Science Education or a closely related field
    2. A minimum of 2-3 years of progressive experience in a related field
    3. Demonstrable evidence of the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and a diverse student population.
    4. Proficient in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office, and other related software packages.
    5. Excellent communication leadership and relationship-building skills required.
