Departmental Overview

The Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society and the Banatao Institute (CITRIS) leverage the research strengths of the University of California campuses at Berkeley, Davis, Merced and Santa Cruz, and operate within the greater ecosystem of the University and the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of Silicon Valley. We strengthen bridges between worldclass laboratory research, state and national policymakers, and companies and startups creating new applications and reshaping entire industries. CITRIS and the Banatao Institute facilitate interdisciplinary work among hundreds of University of California faculty members, students, corporate partners, and international institutions. Together with these public and private partners, we are shaping the future of technology in ways that cross traditional boundaries.

You will be the first line of AV Event support which will include the scheduling of events, setting up equipment, pre-event checks, post event shutdown, equipment rentals, 3rd party vendor support and maintenance schedules.

The Audio-Visual Technician is responsible for setup, running, and take down of audio/visual (A/V) equipment used throughout the building. The Audio-Visual Technician will also provide technical assistance and support throughout the building. The Audio-Visual Technician will also provide technical assistance and support during events as requested or as needed. It is important that the Audio-Visual Technician be familiar with the building, its equipment, policies, programs, and services and the day-to-day schedule of events.

**This is an 18-month contract appointment with the potential for extension and/or conversion to career.**

Responsibilities

25% Coordinates and provides AV support to clients having events in SDH. Communicates with clients via email and in person. Provides pre-event test runs. Exhibits excellent customer interactions while facilitating and monitoring key A/V meetings and events, including live-streams.

15% Partners with the facilities group and the events group to manage, schedule, and operate live events.

10% Configure, maintain, support and troubleshoot Live Event Systems/ Meeting Systems.

10% Configure, maintain, support and troubleshoot streaming platform and equipment.

10% Provide trouble-shooting and help desk support for event customers, operations, offcampus multi-media event support, live and post video production services (lighting, audio, recording, directing, editing, and media duplication for internal and external use).

10% Post-production activities include managing incoming/outgoing assets, editing, versioning, and upkeep of asset catalog.

10% Perform weekly checks on all event spaces to ensure functionality and immediately fix or escalate any issues to supervisor to ensure little to no downtime. Setup/breakdown: Make sure equipment is set up & ready to use (e.g. Laptop for presentations, projector, check connections, cables & adapters, etc.

10% Potentially, you will need to travel and/or work outside of normal business hours, to include evenings and weekends, for special events or for international teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent client service.
  • Ability to apply diagnostic techniques for problem troubleshooting.
  • Experience using digital media equipment, video creation, editing software, digital media control software, and various computer equipment.
  • Ability to adapt equipment setup and provide alternative setup or workarounds if necessary.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to resolve issues quickly and make decisions that meet university objectives, in a collaborative culture.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $27.06 to $36.83 hourly, commensurate with experience.
