Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) at UNCG has broad responsibilities in determining the strategic direction for information technology deployment and use throughout the campus. The Institutional Research & Enterprise Data Management team provides official and internal institutional reporting and analytics services, data quality assurance, metadata management, and data governance services in support institutional decision-making.

Position Summary:

This position will coordinate and support the university’s comprehensive efforts to create enterprise metadata standards and ensure compliance with enterprise policies with emphasis on metadata specific to analytic reporting (identifying commonly used reporting elements, metrics, key performance indicators, and calculations or transformations). This individual will assist in defining strategic requirements, roadmap, and direction for metadata capabilities and may facilitate working groups in metadata analysis and assessment approach for issue remediation. These efforts will include identifying key business data elements and supporting and interacting with various university functions on cross-application remediation efforts. This individual will continue to develop and maintain the university Business Data Model as a driver for metadata management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Mid-career with Masters and 1-2 yrs experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 yrs experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strongly preferred:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Analytics, Business, or Information Science, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a closely related field.● 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: data management, data governance, data quality, or data analysis demonstrated through work.● Ability to negotiate, influence, and collaborate to build successful relationships with both business and technology partners.● Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical partners.● Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively.● Experience using collaborative and office productivity tools like Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, etc.● Excellent analytical and organizational skills.● Excellent oral and written communication skills.● Excellent problem-solving ability.

Preferred (in addition to the above):● Master’s Degree in Analytics, Business or Information Science, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a closely related field.● 1+ years of experience in data management related areas such as metadata or lineage, data governance, or data quality.● 1+ years of metadata tool experience (such as iData Data Cookbook, Erwin Data Intelligence, Microsoft Azure Purview, Collibra Platform, ASG, Metacenter, etc.).● 1+ years of data modeling experience with a tool such as Erwin Data Modeler.Knowledge and understanding of database querying and creating ad hoc reporting results using SQL or similar querying methods.

Key Responsibility:

Interfaces with Administrative, Academic, and Technology partners and data stewards to identify and define key business data elements.

Essential Tasks:

1. Facilitate efforts to source, load, validate, report on, and remediate business metadata and technical metadata specific to analytic reporting (identifying commonly used reporting elements, metrics, key performance indicators, and calculations or transformations).2. Gather approvals for data dictionaries and other related work.
3. Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively and productively with all levels of staff.

Develop ITS metadata service offering and continue development and maintenance of the university Business Data Model.
Leverage metadata domain expertise and data/business/process analysis to inform and support metadata management solution design.
Own the selected solution (metadata toolset).

Essential Tasks:

1. Develop an enterprise metadata management solution with input from the Enterprise Data Governance Manager and also from stakeholders and data stewards from across the university.2. Establish cataloging specifications and standards across applications.
3. Prepare documentation to support metadata-driven initiatives.
