Essential Job Duties:

For more than 30 years The Nonwovens Institute (NWI) has worked to be the global leader in nonwovens education, research, and service to the nonwovens and affiliate industry. It does this by offering a range of education, research, and services to industry. The Warehouse and Process Technician position is responsible for the following tasks that support NWI.

  • Warehouse organization, maintenance of GMP and ISO 9001 practices, and ensuring safe work habits are employed as a priority in all work.

  • Receiving and shipping from the warehouse and coordinating with internal customers the delivery of needed shipments. Conducting record keeping activities to accurately track the movement of materials in the NWI inventory.

  • Support of NWI labs in process trials to develop or produce nonwovens. This will involve learning specific jobs on the process team and following standard operating procedures. Lab work will be driven by NWI business needs and can involve work on the spunbond, meltblown, carded, wet laid or small-scale lab platforms.

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

Work Schedule:

Hours will vary based on project/trial needs. Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Depending on the business need at times the hours can be 4 days per week, 12 hrs per day (e.g., 7 am to 7 pm)

Other Work/Responsibilities:

  • No loose clothing/jewelry and long hair tied back
  • 100% cotton undershirt with cotton/cotton-poly blend shirt, and thick 100% cotton long pants (loose fitting). Closed toe shoes
  • Work attire shall be supplemented, as necessary, with the appropriate gloves and other PPE necessary for the tasks to be performed. Please reference PPE Assessment and Standard Operating Procedures with Lab Managers before beginning work. If you have questions, check with your supervisor to determine appropriate dress for your job.
  • PPE to be provided and worn: NWI Pilot Labs (TEX, CTI & Partners) – protective eyewear, safety shoes
  • Eye protection must conform to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Standard Z87.1-1989. Prescription safety glasses are required for employees who must routinely wear safety glasses in lieu of fitting safety glasses over their personal glasses. All safety glasses shall have side protection
  • Steel-toed boots (University provides up to $100 towards the cost)

Minimum Experience/Education:

  • Experience in, or knowledge of, manufacturing machine operation
  • Experience with Safe Work Practices

Department Required Skills:

  • The ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds frequently, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Commitment to safety standards.
  • Ability to train/drive a forklift within first 30 days – training will be provided. Ability to handle warehouse material movement needs.
  • Ability to Identify and Properly use hand tools.
  • Working knowledge and skill in the use of laboratory equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of appropriate cleaning and sterilizing materials and techniques.
  • Ability to clean and maintain the laboratory and equipment according to written directions and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion of all research.
  • Ability to listen to instructions, and ask the necessary questions to complete assigned tasks.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

  • Ability to learn process operation role, and warehouse role
  • Previous industry experience with manufacturing
  • Operate a forklift
  • Mechanical skills are a plus, or the ability to learn
  • Record keeping skills are a plus
