Job Description

The Department of Information Systems & Technology (IST) in the College of Business Administration, University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) is seeking a strong candidate for a Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position.
• Research: Candidates should have a strong record of, or potential for, research, demonstrable through existing publications and a research pipeline. Areas of interest include broad topics related to Information Systems. Expertise combining Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity in organizational contexts is particularly welcome. Candidates should demonstrate potential to continue publishing in top-tier academic journals and to obtain and execute research grants from major funding sources such as the National Science Foundation, US Department of Defense, and others.
• Teaching: Candidates should have experience teaching in both face-to-face and 100% online formats at undergraduate and graduate levels. Ideally, candidates will have a demonstrable record of incorporating applied/hands-on learning experiences into their Information Systems and/or Cybersecurity related courses. Candidates will demonstrate an openness to innovative instructional strategies, a willingness for continuous professional development, and a continuous improvement plan to stay abreast of industry needs in curriculum design and delivery. Teaching expertise in areas such as Systems Analysis and Design, Application Development, Cloud Computing, Business Analytics, Information Security Management, Information Security Risk Management, Information Systems Auditing, Secure Software Development, Cybersecurity Analytics, Threat Modelling and Analytics, or other Information Systems and/or Cybersecurity related topics, is desirable.
• Service: Candidates should have familiarity with the information systems ecosystem and workforce needs. Candidates are expected to actively participate in mentoring students and providing career guidance. Candidates will have established ties with industry or will actively develop and maintain industry contacts to better serve the IST students and their job placements. Candidates will actively engage with existing student-facing activities of the department or will demonstrate initiative to create exciting learning and career centered opportunities for IST students. They will also participate in maintaining the department’s CAE-CDE designations. College and University committees, task forces, and other activities for furthering UMSL’s public land grand mission are also avenues for satisfying service commitments.

Qualifications

Earned (by start date at the latest) Doctoral degree in Information Systems (IS), or Cybersecurity, or closely related fields.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) 2022, or the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) 2022, or by video conference, as appropriate. Final group of candidates will be invited for a Campus Visit before an offer is made.

Other Information About the Information Systems & Technology Department: The department currently offers bachelor's and master's degrees in Information Systems & Technology as well as Cybersecurity. Certificates and minors are also available. Courses are offered in both 100% online and in-person/hybrid modalities. The department currently serves more than 400 students across different program offerings. The department is part of the AACSB accredited College of Business Administration. Additionally, the department maintains a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) designation by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
