Job Summary:

The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for multiple tenure-track assistant professor positions in Cybersecurity to begin September 2023.

Eastern Washington University, located on the traditional homelands of the Spokane People, is a midsize regional, comprehensive institution offering high-quality liberal arts and professional undergraduate and graduate programs in Cheney, Spokane, and elsewhere in Washington State.
The Spokane metropolitan area is home to over 400,000 diverse residents and offers great four-season outdoor recreational opportunities and a vibrant arts and cultural community.
The Department of CSEE offers academic programs leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Cyber Operations, a Bachelor of Science Cyber Operations, an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Computer Science, an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, a Master of Science in Computer Science, and a Professional Master of Computer Science.
Cybersecurity is contained within Computer Science. Cybersecurity/Computer Science has 10 faculty members and roughly 300 undergraduate and 10 master students. The department resides in the Catalyst Building located in downtown Spokane’s University District. This facility is a public-private partnership with the regional tech industry to create a high-tech hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. It offers our students and faculty outstanding opportunities for collaboration with regional industry and other universities. Through teaching and research, the successful candidate will capitalize on the creative and intellectual opportunities made possible through these partnerships.
Candidates with experience in all Cybersecurity areas will be considered. Candidates should have a demonstrated potential or record for effective teaching and outstanding research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Candidates must show a high degree of interest in human and cultural diversity with a demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach to teaching and scholarship that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public. Conditions of Employment:

We are open for in-person instruction for academic year 2022-23, should Washington State or University pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence using these technologies.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check and applicant certification prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

  • A Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, or Computer Science or closely related discipline is required at the time of appointment (9/16/2023).
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching Cybersecurity/Computer Science coursework.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching advanced coursework in Cybersecurity/Computer Science.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in innovative research and scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference may be given to candidates who offer college-level teaching experience.

Responsibility / Duty:

A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service, and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.

  • Meet all scheduled classes;
  • Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales;
  • Schedule and attend office hours;
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines;
  • Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities.
