Job Description The UMKC School of Dentistry is looking for a reliable and self-motivated Clinical Technician II to work independently and in a team environment as part of our Central Sterilization Team. This team is responsible for sterilizing and disinfecting the instruments and equipment used in the various Dental Clinics within the School of Dentistry – we see over 200+ patients per day! This position works in a learning environment, supporting Faculty, Staff, and Students and is a place for all to excel and grow professionally. You will be part of a team effort that provides student education and dental care for the community. You will work with pleasant and outgoing people from different departments throughout the building. One of the brightest sides of working at the dental school is meeting all of our new students for the first time and greeting them with a smile. Our vision is to help dental and dental hygiene students achieve their goals to be the best-qualified clinicians upon graduation. An ideal candidate for this position understands the importance of following infection control procedures and policies, including OSHA and UMKC guidelines, and recognizes names and uses of standard dental equipment. Customer service is paramount when helping to serve our students and faculty. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare dental cassettes, bur blocks, and other equipment and ensure that the cassettes are complete, sterilized, and ready to be checked out for patient treatment.
  • Approximately 30% of the day is spent pushing and pulling sterilization racks.
  • Pull equipment twice daily for student mailboxes, load and unload mailboxes, and check-in unused equipment.
  • Inventory instruments and sterilize equipment in Graduate Clinics.
  • Periodically perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance checks on various equipment.
  • Assist with state boards.
  • May provide task/activity-level direction to others with less experience (i.e., first year dental students)
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience is necessary from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.
  • Certifications, as required by regulatory agencies, are necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of dental materials and equipment is preferred but not required.
Full Time/Part Time

40 hours per week (1.0 FTE), fully benefit-eligible from date of hire, staff position.
