Description
Reporting directly to the Provost, the Vice Provost for Strategic Communications and Engagement (VPSC) will lead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive, university-wide communications strategy and marketing plan to elevate the work of the academic community at Temple University.  Working with the Provost, the VPSC will partner with the provost’s senior leadership team to enhance the visibility and profile of activities and accomplishments within the provost’s portfolio and of the university’s academic community, including 17 schools and colleges and multiple administrative units.  The VPSC will identify key audiences of both internal and external stakeholders and will tailor the communications strategy for each to maximize the impact of communication plans in achieving goals. The VPSC will work closely with university Strategic Marketing and Communications to guide and shape strategic messaging for the portfolio and ensure strategic coordination and consistency. 

The VPSC will also work closely with the Provost, the provost’s senior leadership team, Institutional Advancement and school and college leadership to develop and execute a strategy for the provost’s engagement with key external constituents. This will include identifying, developing, and assisting the Provost in development opportunities and in maintaining relationships with key external constituents in support of the goals of the portfolio and the university.

An important component of the VPSC’s position will be developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with the schools and colleges and the academic and administrative units within the portfolio, as well as with the Office of the President, Strategic Marketing and Communications, Institutional Advancement, and other administrative units external to the portfolio to inform the strategy development and identify opportunities for strategic communication and engagement. Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field from an accredited institution. At least 8-10 years’ management experience in a communications or marketing position and/or a development or engagement position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:
* Excellent administration, management, and organizational leadership skills. 
* High emotional intelligence and excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, electronic) and interpersonal skills; ability to interface at all organizational levels. 
* Demonstrated experience developing communications and marketing strategies and plans with performance metrics. 
* Ability to communicate articulately and effectively with varied audiences.
* A proven understanding of how to utilize social media and emerging new media, mobile applications, web-based communications, research, and analytical tools (e.g., Google analytics).
* Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment and with multiple stakeholders.
* Exceptional project management skills. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines while juggling multiple priorities.
* Strong writing and editing skills.
* Highly organized and able to deliver on priorities. 

Preferred:
* Master’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field from an accredited institution.
* Leadership experience in marketing/communications and/or development/engagement.
* Experience working in a higher education setting.
* Strong analytical mindset; research and strategic planning skills.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
