Job Description:The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida invites applications for a postdoctoral associate to conduct research with Prof. Adam Ginsburg on topics related to high-mass star formation, the stellar initial mass function, and the Galactic Center. The successful applicant will be expected to work with ALMA observations of star forming regions in the Galactic disk. They will be involved in projects comparing JWST to ALMA data in the Galactic center, searches for salt molecule emission in protostellar disks, and/or studies of the formation of the initial mass function. The candidate should have experience processing ALMA data. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2023, with some flexibility.

The position is renewable annually for up to three years based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. A Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or a related field is required prior to the start date.

The successful candidate will have access to the newly built HiPerGator research computing cluster and will be able to apply for time on the 10.4m GTC. The University of Florida has active research groups in galaxy formation and evolution, ISM physics, star formation, stellar astronomy, extrasolar planets, theoretical astrophysics and instrumentation, with vibrant groups both in the Department of Astronomy and Department of Physics. In addition, they will have access to collaborative opportunities campus-wide via the newly established Informatics Institute at the University of Florida, and artificial intelligence initiative (ai.ufl.edu).

Minimum Requirements:A Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or a related field is required prior to the start date.Preferred Qualifications:

The strongest candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Experience with ALMA, VLA, and/or JWST data reduction
  • Experience with spectral line modeling tools
  • A proven track record of publishing results
