The Valley Foundation School of Nursing (TVFSON) at San José State University seeks qualified applicants for a full-time tenured Full Professor to serve as the Director of the School of Nursing.

The Valley Foundation School of Nursing was established in 1955. The programs include: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), an Advanced Placement (RN to BSN), a Master of Science (MS) with the area of concentration as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP). In Fall 2021 a pilot concurrency program was launched, the Integrated Community College Pathway (ICCP) which allows students to complete their RN at the community college level and graduate with a BSN in 2.5 years. The School of Nursing has undergone a major curriculum revision to provide program improvements across the entire curriculum. The multiple faculty committees ensure quality in program evaluation and assessment processes and have long term hospital partners who collaborate with the education of the nursing students. We have a strong relationship with our local public health department and have a 30-year history of Nurse Managed Centers in the local community. Our diverse faculty is of 19 Tenured/Tenure Track and 43 part time lecturers with a variety of education and expertise levels. The school has three state of the art Simulation laboratories including separate OB/Pediatric, Medical Surgical, and Community based “Apartment” lab spaces.

- Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in nursing (e.g., PhD, DNP, DNSc) or equivalent (e.g., EdD, DPH) with a current active and unencumbered, unrestricted California RN License or eligible for licensure in California.
- Applicants should have a minimum of two (2) years senior-level administrative experience in an academic/higher education environment.
- Applicants should demonstrate leadership experience across a range of nursing programs including undergraduate and graduate
- Applicants should demonstrate effectiveness in teaching, service, research, scholarly and creative activities commensurate with the rank of tenured Full Professor.
- Applicants should have experience in mentoring faculty to advance their research, scholarly and creative activity agenda.
- Applicants should have experience with curriculum and program development.
- Applicants should have experience with the management of grant funding, student scholarships, and directing development.
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
Priority will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:
- Administrative experience in higher education or healthcare facilities with collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience with project management, strategic planning, and budgeting.
- Experience with developing and maintaining interdisciplinary partnerships.
- A minimum of two years face-to-face teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure registered nursing programs.
- Provide visionary leadership to guide the future of The Valley Foundation School of Nursing.
- In collaboration with key stakeholders and the Dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences, lead strategic planning initiatives to meet student, staff, faculty and community needs.
- Advocate for the TVFSON mission to stakeholders within and outside the university and to professional and academic groups at local, regional, state, and national levels.
- Oversee program assessment and improvement efforts at the University level.
- Establish collaborative partnerships with clinical sites and community organizations.
- Coordinate and ensure that standards for state and national accreditation are met.
- Effectively respond to student, staff, faculty and external stakeholder concerns and issues.
- Engage in activities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus, in local and global communities, and the profession.
- Manage departmental resources including the allocated budget, requests for travel, facilities, and space.
- Manage the hiring, performance evaluation, teaching assignments and professional development of faculty and staff.
- Provide administrative oversight for the retention, tenure, and promotion of TVFSON faculty.
- Serve as an advocate for students, staff and faculty.
- Active involvement in professional organizations governing nursing education.
- Preside over TVFSON faculty meetings and participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
- Demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
