Job Summary

Responsible for recruitment and evaluation of prospective students. Plans events and outreach to students and secondary schools and performs related public relations and marketing functions to aid in the overall mission of the Smith College Office of Admission.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

Recruitment (50%)

Plan and execute approximately eight weeks of travel annually to recruit students and manage an assigned geographic territory determined by the Dean of Admission. Visits high schools, attends college fairs, conducts workshops, and meets with alumnae. Initiate and maintain effective communication between Smith College and college counselors from a diverse range of high schools. Manages communication with students, parents, counselors, and other constituencies. Presents on-campus and/or virtual information sessions and participates in leading workshops during events for prospective and admitted students. Assist with communications, event planning and targeted outreach initiatives.

Programs and Communications (20%)

Assist with targeted recruitment efforts which may include activities for underrepresented students of color, first-generation college students and low-income students. Assist with the recruitment and selection of transfer and Ada Comstock applicants. Contribute to the Communications Team by assisting the associate director with text proofing and copy editing, maintain oversight of the admission website and recommend any necessary updates, update and maintain Smith admission profiles in various college guidebooks or websites.

Admission Reading and Selection (20%)

Interview and evaluate prospective applicants. Read and vote on admissibility of approximately 1000 candidates for admission to the college in coordination with a team of colleagues under the direction of the Dean of Admission.

Other Functions

Administrative Functions (10%)

Keep abreast of pertinent developments at Smith College, in higher education, and in the field of professional admission work. Cooperate with other administrators of the College where necessary, especially Student Financial Services, Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the Alumnae Group. Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Bachelor’s degree; minimum of two years of relevant experience in admission or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Individual must hold valid driver's license and be able and willing to travel by both car and airplane.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with a language other than English. Previous experience with public speaking preferred. Individuals should be able to demonstrate fluidity with a variety of software and database management platforms.

Skills

The ability to effectively and efficiently develop and execute several key projects simultaneously. Must be able to work independently, have strong organizational and planning skills, excellent writing and oral communication skills. Requiredstrong analytical and computer expertise including familiarity with MS Office suite and CRM platforms and a willingness to adapt quickly to changing technologies. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact with people of all backgrounds and participate as part of a cohesive team working toward a shared mission. Ability to use sound judgement, creativity and vision.

Additional Information
