The Adjunct, Microbiology,Biological and Physical Sciences, position provides quality instruction andmaintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasisplaced on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. The Adjunct role provides instruction andmonitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the DepartmentChair, or other leadership members. Theincumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability tomultitask while engaging large groups of people with complicated material.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instruction & StudentLearning
Teaches assigned courses asscheduled. Designs curriculum embracingdiversity, in all forms, to foster talent in students while modeling inclusiveteaching strategies, with an understanding of the socio-cultural issues oftraditionally underrepresented groups. Considers individual differences of students in order to design andsupport a range of appropriate learning activities. Participates in the identification ofstudents with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriateresource. Uses technology in a mannerappropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs andcommunicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of suchtechnology. Keeps accurate andappropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.
Maintains attendance records,determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with establishedpolicies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback aswell as other relevant information to students throughout the semester. Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi thatincorporates departmental, college, cross-college,and instructor requirements. Conductsclasses punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Employs appropriate assessment techniques tomeasure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives. Engages in periodic meetings with thedepartment, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties andprofessional development.
Student Engagement &Advisement
Creates a positive classroomatmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort,academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support forlearners. Uses technology to assist incommunication with students. Encouragesa sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside theclassroom.
Refers students to appropriatestudent and academic support services available at the College or in thecommunity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: online instruction techniques and methods; Microsoft Office; requisite or willing to gain requisite computer skills needed for Blackboard and/or other student support systems; internet research; online communication and record-keeping.Skill in: providing quality instruction; learning technologies and the use multi-media technology to enhance student learning; instructional planning and presentation; incorporating critical thinking, effective communication and other general education outcomes in course content; effective time management; proficiency with online communication record-keeping.Ability to: effectively communicate and use interpersonal skills; create engaging learning environments that respect a wide variety of viewpoints; be sensitive to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities; work independently without ongoing direct supervision; meet deadlines; perform student learning outcomes; maintain confidential and sensitive information, including FERPA.
Master's degree or higher from an accredited academic institution in the discipline of microbiology. Medical professional degree (MD, DVM, DO or other pertinent post-baccalaureate degree) will also be considered. Experience in the procedures of a teaching/learning laboratory setting. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. degree; prior teaching experience, experience using an online course management system (Blackboard, Edmodo, Moodle) and online course instruction techniques and methods.
