The mission of WFSU Public Media is to enrich the lives and cultivate diverse perspectives by connecting our community through media content and services that inform, educate, and entertain. Beginning operations in 1960, WFSU-TV started in a small studio on the Florida State University campus. More than 50 years later, WFSU Public Media is a member station of both National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). In total, WFSU Public Media offers two television broadcast stations, one cable-only station, one statewide satellite television service, four FM broadcast stations and online streaming services. WFSU also provides community outreach and early education services, as well as acts as a teaching and learning lab for Florida State University students.

Responsibilities

This position manages the administrative and human resources functions for WFSU Public Media.

  • Serves as the WFSU HR Department Representative. Coordinates all HR functions for WFSU-TV, WFSU-FM, and the Florida Channel which includes directing the work flow of recruiting, hiring, termination, reference checks, funding changes and position updates, evaluations, benefits, payroll activities and cost center certification.
  • Counsels employees and management on HR issues including FMLA and Worker's Compensation. Assists management in the update of position descriptions, provides advice in all personnel and compensation matters. Works closely with FSU HR Department to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Supervises the Office Assistant/reception area. Coordinates functions associated with the reception and main lobby operations. Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates direct reports.
  • Serves as back up FACET rep for exempt and non-exempt positions. Manages employees' security roles by running quarterly reports and providing role updates as necessary. Serves as back up with driver license logs and compliance checks on all TV, FM and FL Channel drivers.
  • Manages the FCC public file requirements including the online FCC website files as well as the hard copy permanent files for both the TV and FM stations. Serves as the primary point of contact for public access to the public files as required by the FCC.
  • Travel Representative for department employees. Assists with lodging, airfare and conference fee arrangements, enters travel, mileage, and reimbursement reports in Concur. Schedules and coordinates in house training for staff.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience prioritizing, organizing, and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to train and supervise employees.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer functions.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and standards of human resource administration in assigned area.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.

Anticipated Salary Range

Mid $30,000s to low $40,000s commensurate with education and experience.

Soft Money Funded Position

This is a soft money funded position, with renewal based on available funds and the needs of the University. This is not a time limited position.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
