Student Life Communications

The Office of Student Life Communications within the Division of Student Life invites applications for the position of Assistant Director. This position serves as a critical leader in the strategic planning, development, and execution of communications priorities to promote the programming, resources, and services of the Division of Student Life. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Student Life Communications team and division colleagues to champion, develop, and execute data-informed communications strategies that are focused on promoting opportunities for students to learn, lead, and serve.

Student Life Communications supports the departments within the division, providing creative solutions to maximize initiatives that serve our students and the UT community. We uphold the university’s brand guidelines to strengthen the identity and reputation of the Division of Student Life, illuminating the unique story of the Volunteer experience.

The Position: The Assistant Director develops and leads integrated communications plans that are strategically focused on program goals to increase awareness and drive student engagement. The Assistant Director maintains current and accurate understanding of the university, its programs, and its stakeholders to inform effective marketing campaigns. In partnership with the director, the Assistant Director evaluates the division's overall content strategy and workflow, ensuring alignment and coordination between written/visual storytelling, website, social media, and other print and digital platforms and campaigns.



Qualifications
Responsibilities:

    Lead brainstorming and ideation sessions, working collaboratively with department stakeholdersManage project coordination, production, and execution of department-level projectsAdjust schedules and targets on projects as needed and proactively communicate changes with departmentsProvides managerial oversight of department annual production calendar with particular focus on recurring projects, measuring internal effectiveness and alignment with division prioritiesCollaborates with colleagues to champion, develop, and execute data-informed communications strategiesOversees development and oversight of division-wide communications committee to provide continuing education on the division's brand, best practices for digital and print design, and ongoing communications prioritiesLiaison with UTK Office of Communications and Marketing to ensure consistency of university communications, brand, and accessibilityWork collaboratively with SLC team to align department resources with division prioritiesCollect, review, and analyze data to generate reports/presentations allowing for strategic, data-driven decision making and enhance effectiveness of division and department communication strategy.Develop and manage robust student intern program

What We Require

Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.

Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience related to duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Ability to work with diverse constituencies Prioritize multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations, working with limited supervisionExercise good judgment, handling different situations with flexibility, confidence and leadershipFoundational knowledge of marketing essentials and communications strategies Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite and Mac Operating SystemsStrong skills in verbal and written communication, customer service, and interpersonal relationships
What We Prefer:

Education: Master’s degree in student affairs, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.

Experience:

    Demonstrated experience supervising internships and/or practicum studentsDemonstrated experience in project management and strategic planning
Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a standard university benefits package. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.
