Job Summary:
The Mental Health Clinician performs the duties of a behavioral health clinician, providing generalist clinical services to college students, and consultation services to faculty, staff, students and parents/families during the heavily demanded periods Fall and Spring semesters. This is a part-time (up to 20 hours per week) position during the academic year.
Duties/Physical Demands:
• Provides multi-culturally informed generalist mental health counseling services, including general mental health, substance use, and attention problem screenings and individual and group counseling and psychotherapy to Miami University students presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns during the heavily demanded Fall and Spring Semesters.
• Intervenes in crisis and emergency situations of a mental health nature with students.
• Consults with families, faculty, staff and other professionals regarding the mental health needs of students.
• Maintains clinical records and provides clinical documentation and communication with external practitioners as necessary for ethical clinical treatment.
• Assumes responsibility for other administrative duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Earned masters degree in an appropriate accredited mental health training program (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, etc.)
• Independently licensed or licensed eligible in Ohio within one’s field of training. Unlicensed psychology post-doctoral trainees are also encouraged to apply.
Desired Qualifications:
• Specific training and experience providing mental health services to a university student population.
• Independently licensed in Ohio within one’s field of training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Experience working in mental health counseling/therapy
• Experience in crisis assessment/management/intervention, short-term treatment, and confidentiality requirements
• Demonstrated skills in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple clinical situations and to coordinate these efforts as a part of a multidisciplinary team
• Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
• Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues
• Demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to multicultural issues/social justice and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups
• Self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals, standards and ethics
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
