SUMMARY:

The Coordinator for the Rising Lion Program works under the supervision of the Director for Outreach & Post-Secondary Partnerships to provide support, resources, educational opportunities, and events for first-time new freshman students who would benefit from intentional onboarding and student success interventions before the first long semester of study.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of students in the Rising Lion program.
  • Fosters partnerships with campus stakeholders, high schools, secondary education systems, and community-based organizations throughout the University’s service areas to facilitate awareness of the Rising Lion program.
  • Collaborates and contributes to the development of marketing campaigns to build awareness for the Rising Lion program through the development of digital and print materials, emails, and text.
  • Provides coaching to Rising Lion students in establishing appropriate academic and personal goals through mentoring and counseling and encourages the development of life skills through the coordination and/or presentation of skills workshops and individual support and assistance.
  • Ensures the effectiveness of the coaching process by maintaining both paper and electronic database files for all program participants, regularly updating notes, and validating the information contained in the student database.
  • Helps to assure that potential Rising Lion students have full information on opportunities and responsibilities related to the program by preparing materials, such as mailings to prospective students, responding to emails, coordinating assessments and other tests involving participants, and directing participants to the appropriate resources for financial aid, orientation, providing basic information in response to questions about matriculation issues, and coordinating the educational and social activities of the program.
  • Performs the hiring, training, and supervising of peer mentors and an intern for employment in support of the program.
  • May assist in preparation and monitoring of budgets for programs and events.
  • Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the Division of Enrollment Management by performing all other duties as assigned by the Director for Outreach & Post-Secondary Partnerships.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in higher education, student personnel, education administration, or a related field and experience in college student development, organizational development, college student programming, and/or leadership. Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to motivate lead, and inspire small and large audiences are required. Working knowledge of or the ability to learn and use database

applications, customer relationship manager (CRM) system, and other systems or applications that may be used within the University or division is required. The ability to operate and troubleshoot electronic office equipment, computers, and peripherals is required.

  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team. Ability to travel between multiple locations for off-site work assignments and to work nights and weekends.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

A Master’s degree is preferred. Knowledge of leadership theory, multicultural initiatives, and student development. Experience with campus-wide programming/workshops in the realm of leadership. Experience with developing student leaders in a higher education setting. Exceptional interpersonal (communications, conflict management, negotiation) and facilitation skills for working with diverse populations and management styles preferred.
