Position Title:Substitute Teacher/ Teacher Assistants, Head Start Extra Help - Multiple Vacancies (12826) Department:643496 - Head Start Job Posting Description:

The Head Start/Early Head Start program based out of SIUE's East St. Louis Center is seeking applicants for temporary/substitute Teacher and Teacher Assistant positions. The SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start program serves more than 860 families and children birth through age five, including children with special needs, throughout St. Clair County and consists of a team of individuals dedicated to making real change that leads to the success of children, families and communities. The program is housed in 12 early childhood centers, seven managed directly by SIUE staff and five collaborations. SIUE’s Head Start program includes a rigorous school readiness program and provides comprehensive services, such as health/dental screenings and family engagement and support activities. Qualified candidates will be placed on a list for on call substitute/temporary positions as needed. Duties for the Head Start Teacher/Teacher Assistant will include:

-Assist in implementing the program curriculum and the Head Start Performance Standards.
-Provide input into the preparation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans, in advance.
-Actively supervise children at all times.
-Manage children’s behavior using appropriate child guidance techniques.
-Assist in organizing the classroom in well-developed and defined learning centers.
-Maintain a classroom that is clean, safe and free of clutter.
-Assist in the facilitation of children’s learning.
-Observe children in assigned classroom environment and make appropriate referrals, as needed.
-Engage parents in all aspects of the classroom.
-Work collaboratively with all program staff to maintain on-going professional and appropriate communication with parents.
-Assist in maintaining accurate classroom records.

Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the program. Shifts and days needed may vary. This will be for temporary positions beginning fall 2021 through spring 2022 (Academic Year 2021-2022).

These positions are current temporary Civil Service Extra Help vacancies through Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Head Start/Early Head Start Centers. Extra Help positions do not offer benefits and hours/days of work may vary. SIUE Head Start centers are located in Belleville, Cahokia, Caseyville, East St. Louis, and Brooklyn, Illinois. Final center assignments will be decided upon hire based on programmatic needs.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

Teacher Minimum Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or have a degree with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education with experience teaching pre-school aged children.

OR

-Possess an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education and at least two years of experience teaching infants/toddlers and/or pre-school aged children in the Head Start program. Currently enrolled in a qualifying, degree-seeking program leading to a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education and having already completed at least 50% of the major coursework.

Teacher Assistant Minimum Qualifications:

-Associate degree's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field.

OR

-Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential.

OR

-Currently enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, having already completed at least half (50%) of the coursework.
