Job Overview

The Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality's Economic Security & Opportunity Initiative (ESOI) works with policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and advocates to develop effective policies and practices to alleviate poverty and inequality in the United States. Areas of research include policies, programs, and practices related to tax and benefits, jobs and education, health and human service delivery, and democracy, all with a cross-cutting focus on racial and gender equity.

The Policy & Data Analyst conducts quantitative and qualitative research and policy analysis on a wide range of issues relating to economic security and opportunity. They conduct literature reviews; help develop and test quantitative methodologies; collect, synthesize, and analyze data and policies; organize and share findings; draft and revise reports and other publications; help develop and implement project strategies; engage with experts; help manage project timelines and work plans; take careful, detailed notes during internal and external meetings; help conceptualize new projects; and contribute to the center's external communications activities.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to a Senior Policy Analyst, the Policy & Data Analyst works under project supervision of other Senior Analysts and Directors, operates under minimal supervision, and may be assigned to supervise policy analysts, students, and interns.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • At least 4 years of experience with qualitative and quantitative research and policy analysis [note: consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Commitment to GCPI ESOI's mission
  • Ability to develop sound research methodologies and collect, synthesize, analyze, and interpret data and policies
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and clearly express complex ideas tailored for various audiences
  • Knowledge of a broad range of economic security issues
  • Race, class, and gender equity and inclusion experience, skills, and values
  • Self-driven work ethic and initiative and strong capacity for collaboration
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work with efficiency
  • Impeccable attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent note taking, organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for learning
  • Facility with public use data - e.g., Current Population Survey, American Community Survey, etc.)


Work Mode: Hybrid 2 Days. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
