Position Summary

Enrollment Services implements SDSU enrollment management policies and provides services to students from their initial point of interest in SDSU to their graduation. The function of the Graduate Admissions Unit is to perform various tasks that would facilitate the admission of eligible graduate students to the university. This involves the processing, and routing of applications to the appropriate campus departments for review and the creation of academic student records for the College of Graduate Studies.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions, the Graduate Admission Specialist will determine admission eligibility for graduate, post-baccalaureate and certificate applicants (domestic and international) through records/transcript evaluation and communication with applicants, faculty and other institutions as appropriate. The incumbent will also be responsible for handling admission processing duties such as reconciling fatal application errors, determining residency classification and reviewing admission processing reports on a daily basis to assist the Assistant Director with reconciling application processing errors and identifying workflow issues. Individuals within the Student Services Professional IA classification is at trainee level and will receive ongoing training in the following areas:
  • SDSU policies and procedures as defined by Title V, the CSU Chancellor's Office and the SDSU Graduate Council to process and route applications for review to the academic departments and the College of Graduate Studies.
  • To review unit processes and identify deviations from policies and procedures.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits-eligible, temporary position anticipated to end 12 months from date of hire with the possibility of appointment to a Student Services Professional IB at the end of the training period. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Experience: None required.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of professional student services work experience.
  • Experience analyzing data to determine eligibility for services and/or benefits.
  • Experience using a student information system at a college or university (People Soft/Campus Solutions)

Specialized Skills
  • Previous experience in a university setting in admissions, advising, evaluations or other student service-related office.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proficiency using personal computers and web browser functionality
  • Experience with document reviews in a high-volume environment
  • Experience in data entry and updating database records

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,654 per month.

Classification Salary Range: $3,654 - $4,470 per month.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
