Position Summary

SDSU Facilities Services is a customer service-based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university.

Under general supervision, the Project Supervisor assists in the oversight of maintenance and repair of campus facilities. Responsibilities include: coordinating the work of team members; directing and assisting with a wide variety of trade-related duties. The Facilities Project Supervisor ensures projects are implemented in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. The incumbent works with outside consultants, as needed.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Expected work hours are Monday - Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Two years of experience working as a journey-level crafts worker in one or more building trades including one year in a lead/supervisory capacity. Must have demonstrated achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.

Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

Must possess a valid California Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of verifiable employment experience performing work in one or more of the following trades: Carpentry, Roofing, Locksmith, Mechanical, HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing, or closely related field; technical school trades certification may substitute for one year of work experience.
  • Three or more years in a lead or supervisor capacity.
  • Asbestos, lead and mold abatement experience.
  • Prior experience, within three years, in a higher education environment, or at a government or large multi-building facility environment.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system.
  • A degree in construction or related field, such as construction science, architecture, construction engineering, and/or experience as a trades-worker.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $7,409 per month.

Classification Salary Range: $6,829 - $ 8,655 per month.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
