Position Summary:

Provide counseling service to college students: counseling (individual and group), intake assessments, crisis intervention, referrals, treatment planning, and documentation. Present educational programs and trainings that contribute to the student learning objectives of the division of student affairs; provide consultation to campus community; advise student groups. Work collaboratively with medical providers in multi-disciplinary setting. Participate as a member of an APA doctoral internship training team by supervising trainees and participating in the selection process. Provide leadership, oversight and training for our Master’s level practicum counselor training program.

Provide leadership for university’s prevention efforts. Coordinate a comprehensive substance abuse prevention program, informed by professionally accepted and empirically supported best practices. Present and evaluate prevention and wellness programs related to mental health and well-being. Conduct substance abuse assessments. Provide prevention workshops and therapy groups for students. Collaborate with student conduct and other student affairs departments. Conduct campus climate research to support ongoing prevention and education efforts specific to the institution.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Clinical and Other Services Responsibilities (45%)
• Individual and group therapy, workshops
• Assessment: intake, mandated suicide and self-harm risk assessment, walk-in triage
• Crisis intervention: during and after hours as needed
• Consultation with university staff, faculty, students, parents, etc.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of treatment via department EHR

• Prevention (30%)
• Provide leadership for University prevention efforts
• Assess campus needs and current practices
• Develop and implement educational programs that contribute to student learning objectives, including AOD abuse prevention and student wellness
• Supervise one or more student employees
• Coordinate, delegate and provide educational and wellness workshops for students
• Coordinate, delegate and provide substance use assessments , including those mandated through student conduct and collaborate with student conduct staff on program administration
• Manage Substance Abuse Prevention program budget
• Engage in continuing professional education, including representing the University in regional or national substance abuse prevention and other prevention related organizations

• Training Responsibilities (20%)

• Lead our Master’s or Doctoral level Practicum counselor training program.
• Participate in all aspects of our APA accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship, including intern selection, training, supervision, and oversee the prevention rotation
• Provide and elicit regular evaluative feedback about intern performance and progress

• Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to (5%)
• Serve on division and college committees
• Remain professionally active and current with knowledge and practice

Supervisory Responsibilities

Clinical supervision of trainees, supervision of student employee(s).

Budget Responsibilities

Substance Abuse Prevention budget.

Qualifications:

• Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
• WA Psychology license eligible
• Two or more years post-license (psychology) experience
• Experience teaching, training and/or supervising psychology graduate students
• Well-developed clinical and diagnostic skills
• Well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to function as an integral team member within the department (Counseling, Health, & Wellness Services) and the division (Student Affairs)
• Competency with and commitment to multicultural counseling and professional ethics

• Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

Preferred:

• University counseling center experience as a trainee and/or psychologist
• Completion of APA or CPA accredited doctoral internship
• Completion of APA or CPA accredited doctoral program in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
• Demonstrated commitment to liberal arts education
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
• Skills in utilizing social media to promote wellness
