Who We Are:

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is one of four campuses in the University of Colorado system and is home to over 9,000 undergraduate and 1,800 graduate students. UCCS offers 53 undergraduate degree programs, 24 graduate degree programs, and 8 doctoral programs. UCCS is also home to the world’s only Bachelor of InnovationTM program, which allows our graduates to master multi-disciplinary skills and graduate ready to create real change in the world. UCCS was recently classified as a “High Research Activity” university by the Carnegie Foundation and takes pride in being the only higher education institution in southern Colorado that explicitly includes research as part of its mission. Job Duties:

    Take orders and provide patrons quick and courteous service.Prepare and be able to train others to prepare the customer’s order using the proper recipe, portion and technique.Follow proper cooking, storage, and food handling techniques and assist in training student workers.Assist in the supervision, along with the student managers, of the preparation and cooking of food at a variety of platforms including breakfast, salad bar, deli, grill, pizza, dinner entrees and catering events as assigned.Keep work area clean, safe, and orderly at all times.Complete and supervise training on all pieces of equipment prior to use.Assemble, disassemble, and clean kitchen equipment.Assist in all phases of set up, service and clean up in operation as needed.May assist in storeroom duties such as receiving orders, rotating stock and inventory.May be expected to work various shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays.Position may be assigned as “Essential Services Designation” – meaning required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Competencies:

    Any combination of education, training, and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge and skill to perform the duties and responsibilities as described.Ability to comprehend, carry out and explain complex verbal and written instructions.Ability to bend, stoop, twist and lift up to 60 pounds when storing, stocking and gathering prepared products and/or inventory items.Ability to stand and walk on hard floors for extended hours.Requires the safe and efficient use of food service equipment such as ovens, grills, food choppers and processors, steamers, slicers, etc., as well as understanding the proper way to clean food service equipment.Friendly disposition with effective customer relations skills with ability to work with a varied clientele is imperative.Must be able to communicate effectively.
Work Location: On-site

Remote work will be available for emergency events. This will be offered based on the emergency and allowance will come from leadership and the guidelines provided at the time of the emergency.

This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $15.50/hr

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1 year or more experience in commercial food preparation and service.

  • Have completed or successfully complete ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire.

    Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move.  Employee is occasionally required to have moderate bending, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, moderate energy requirements, tasting/smelling, depth perception, color vision and good field of vision. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and constantly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions and meet the physical and environment demands described satisfactorily.
