Organizational Unit Overview:

Academic Library Services (ALS) is a branch of Academic Affairs and reports through the Provost/ Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs. ALS serves East Carolina University faculty, students, staff and visitors by offering library research and services to support the research, instruction and service goals of the University.

Job Duties :

Reporting to the Head of Scholarly Communication, the librarian in this position reports on, interprets, and visualizes data about library collections and their use in support of library strategic initiatives, including shared print preservation programs; diversifying library collections; the impact of textbook affordability and open access programs; and demand-driven, evidence-based, and/or other dynamic collections models. This librarian will also fulfill collection development, liaison, and outreach duties in order to enhance student learning, faculty research excellence, and scholarly communication practices in the assigned subject areas. The Collection Strategist and Assessment librarian participates in professional development and appropriate service on library, university, and professional committees.Specifically, this librarian will:● Report on, interpret, and visualize library collections data● Support sustainable publishing and other library scholarly communication initiatives● Collaborate with library colleagues to gather collections data for analysis● Share findings within the library and with campus and external groups, as needed.● Engage with faculty and students in assigned areas in order to facilitate use of library collections and services, and to advocate for their information needs● Keep current with general trends in scholarly communication, monitor subject-specific trends, and provide program-specific support for library initiatives such as sustainable publishing, open access, and open educational resources● Develop and assess information resources that support research and teaching in assigned areas● In conjunction with other library colleagues, provide in-depth research assistance, online guides, and library instruction in assigned areas

This is a 12 month, fixed-term permanent position.

Minimum Education/Experience :

● Graduate degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.● Demonstrated competence with data manipulation and quantitative analysis techniques● Demonstrated understanding of trends in library collection management● Knowledge of scholarly communication trends
