Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science, Education or related field. Five years of experience in web page development, computer multimedia, computer use support, and course development and design documentation using emerging technologies, preferably in higher education or experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Coordinates and assists faculty to develop and improve web courses, creates attractive departmental websites, and assists with the preparation of graphics for proposals, courses and professional presentations. Additionally, the instructional designer will collect curated information supplied by faculty and staff to be reformatted into asynchronous modules.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assists and supports faculty in the development of web based courses utilizing instructional technologies. Provides development support to faculty in course redesign for web based delivery. Provides support to faculty in developing appropriate teaching or learning applications for web based courses and implements course development. Supports faculty in the implementation of web based courses and in the design and creation of web pages for support of web based courses. Develops and conducts instructional technology workshops. Creates and maintains database records and spreadsheets. Coordinates scheduling and logistics of web based courses with appropriate university personnel. Consults with faculty members to determine appropriate technology and strategies for course delivery. Maintains appropriate records of work activities and processes course evaluations for online stipends. Participates in continuing professional development activities. Observes safety and security measures appropriate to work performed and work supervised. Provides audio and video production services and support. Builds the framework for 3rd and 4th year away rotations for the COM in the University LMS (Blackboard). Coordinates with Clerkship Directors to ensure that documents are properly uploaded and that course enrollments are correct. (15%).Delivers group and one-on-one trainings to faculty and staff at the COM on best practices in utilizing graphic design, video and sound editing, and digital content creation. (15%). Builds the framework for the asynchronous CME delivery system, Blackboard Genius. Manages the user experience for preceptors and ensures that preceptors can seamlessly navigate the platform and claim CME credit. Maintains this platform for year-round delivery of content. (20%) In conjunction with the Professional Development Coordinator, creates interactive CME modules using software like Adobe Captivate to be housed in Blackboard Genius. (50%) Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Keeps current on emerging applications of instructional design and instructional technology applications as they relate to distance learning. Keeps abreast of research concerning the teaching learning process as it relates to distance education. Requires thorough knowledge of learning theories and an understanding of college level course work and ability to apply that understanding to course development. Ability to design, develop, and implement instructional multimedia products. Ability to work collaboratively including strong communication, interpersonal, project management, and organizational skills. Requires skills of current microcomputer technologies, desktop applications, World Wide Web, and multimedia. Must have knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
