Director of Advising/ Student Success CenterDescription/Job Summary

The Director of Advising/Student Success Center, will oversee the operations of a comprehensive Center that provides direct service to students. The incumbent will be responsible for the leadership and management of the services provided to students, faculty, staff, and constituents in a high traffic student advising and academic support and information/referral center. The Director will provide supervision and integration of student academic support programs; incoming student career assessment, advising, and assistance for students placed on academic warning, probation or suspension. This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs to ensure that the institutional strategy for advising services aligns with the mission, vision, values, and strategic direction of the College.

  • Develops, plans, and implements short- and long-range department goals.
  • Oversees the daily operations and functions of interdisciplinary student success.
  • Creates and maintains learning outcomes and assessment strategies.
  • Conducts assessment, including student learning achieved in the Student Success Center.
  • Coordinates and implements workshops and professional development for students, faculty and staff.
  • Works with academic deans, associate deans and program coordinators to provide advising services.
  • Oversees the business aspect of the Student Success Center (including budget, schedules etc.).
  • Directs hiring, training, and supervision of the Student Success Center staff including conducting annual reviews.
  • Responsible for compiling service data, writing reports, and developing and implementing models for service delivery and development of students.
Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, or closely related field.
  • Seven (7) years of progressive experience of higher education administration/management in academic advising, retention, or coaching.
  • Demonstrated experience leading student persistence and retention initiatives.
  • Experience designing and implementing an effective student advising/success model.
  • Keen analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with faculty, staff, students, and external organizations.
  • Ability to work independently, balance multiple tasks, work to meet deadlines, and prioritize a complex workload.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience utilizing a student information system (Banner, Colleague, PeopleSoft, or similar).
  • Strong technical skills (Microsoft Office 365 Suite).

  • Doctorate degree in education, counseling, or closely related field.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive experience of higher education administration/management in academic advising, retention, or coaching.
  • Experience working at a community college.
