Job Summary

The Head Women's Basketball Coach will demonstrate effective teaching and coaching skills, tactics and technique; plan and implement game strategies for demonstration at practices and competitions; plan and organize team practices and develop multi-year competition schedules; develop and implement strategies to recruit student athletes; assess team's future needs (numbers, skills); identify schools and individuals to target for recruitment. Scout student athletes following NCAA (National Collegiate Athletics Association) and SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) regulations; contact parents and students to evaluate students' athletic ability and promote interest in attending FVSU.

Duties

• Ability to recruit and develop student-athletes academically and athletically
• Possess good communication and organizational skills
• Understanding of NCAA, SIAC, and FVSU rules and regulations and academic expectations of the University
• Assess team's future needs (numbers, skills, equipment)
• Identify schools and individuals to target for recruitment
• Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, public relations, interpersonal, customer service, and supervisory skills when working with student-athletes, faculty, staff, coaches, and administration.
• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others; commitment to working with multi-cultural populations.
• Have strong work ethic and be a person of high integrity and character who shares a commitment to the Fort Valley State University Athletics' program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) from a regionally accredited institution.
• Minimum of 10 years (5) years' experience coaching/competing at a college level or comparable experience preferred.
• Ability to work extended daily hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
