ASSISTANT PROFESSOR/INSTRUCTOR OF DANCE IN THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE, COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES, UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE

INTRODUCTION/POSITION:

The Department of Theatre (https://www.theatre.udel.edu/) seeks an exceptional, dynamic colleague to teach in the popular and expanding Dance Minor (https://www.theatre.udel.edu/minors/dance-minor). The Assistant Professor of Dance will join a vibrant community of artist-teachers and scholars who provide dynamic learning experiences for a diverse and inclusive community of students.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The successful candidate will possess a broad perspective on the field of dance, be committed to creative/scholarly and pedagogical practice, and contribute to the development and teaching of a diverse and inclusive undergraduate dance program. Desirable experience includes choreography skills, technology/digital skills, and community-based/socially engaged practice.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate should have a terminal degree (MFA and/or Ph.D.) or equivalent professional experience in dance, dance studies, or a related field; demonstrated excellence in post-secondary teaching; and evidence of an active, ongoing program of creative or scholarly research. Skills in choreography, technology, and participation in community-based/engaged practice are desirable. Responsibilities include teaching dance at all levels, participate in concert performances, attend dance faculty meetings, and advising. Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.

THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AT UD:

Housed within the Department of Theatre, in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware, the Dance Minor (https://www.theatre.udel.edu/minors/dance-minor) provides students with a comprehensive dance education that includes opportunities to perform, choreograph & conduct research, and teach in school and community settings. The curriculum includes technique, composition & choreography, with elective choices in the historical, cultural, pedagogical, and somatic areas of dance. Coursework is flexible and adaptive for a large range of students. A unique aspect is a required interdisciplinary capstone wherein students combine their dance interest with content from their major course of study. For qualified students, the capstone may be the basis for an honor’s senior thesis.
