Within Emerson College's Media Technologies and Production (MTP) department resides the engineering staff. The Design and Integration Manager serves the students, faculty, and staff of Emerson College by maintaining and providing support services to the College's media production equipment and facilities. The mission of the engineering department is to ensure that MTP managed equipment and facilities are in good working order and to provide high-quality technical services in support of curricular projects. The Electronic Maintenance and Integration Technician shares responsibility for the successful operation of the engineering department.

Purpose of Position: The responsibilities of the Electronic Maintenance and Integration Technician are to support Emerson College's media production curriculum, through ongoing successful daily technical maintenance and troubleshooting. The Electronic Maintenance and Integration Technician is able to diagnose and repair equipment and escalate to appropriate staff and vendors as required. Additionally, they perform on-site service calls to Emerson's various production and post production facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform repairs and work with Senior Electronic Maintenance Technician to coordinate external repair for all other equipment housed within the Equipment Distribution Center (digital cameras, lenses, tripods, lighting equipment, microphones, audio recorders, etc.)
  • Update repair and service tickets for broken and repaired equipment.
  • Provide direct, hands-on engineering support to MTP managed post-production facilities, including: edit suites, recording studios, computer labs, etc., particularly as it relates to classroom mediation (projectors and audio monitoring).
  • Assist the Associate Director, Broadcast Engineering and Design and Integration Manager with regular on-site service calls including troubleshooting, equipment replacement, and preventative maintenance within all Media Technologies and Production facilities, including the Tufte PPC Television Facility, the Journalism Production Center, the Emerson Channel, Emerson Channel Sports, the Paramount Sound Stage as well as Post Production Facilities
  • Install and test various media equipment and systems under the direction of the Associate Director, Broadcast Engineering and the Design and Integration Manager


Your Other Responsibilities:
  • Assist Film Equipment Maintenance Technician with analog motion picture equipment repairs
  • Maintain local and cloud-based technical and administrative documentation.
  • Stay current with media production equipment and industry trends by attending local vendor presentations and demonstrations, industry conference wrap-ups, on-site vendor demonstrations, and reading industry literature in order to better inform service and support needs of upcoming technology requests and purchases.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Your Qualifications:
  • 2-5 years of experience maintaining and servicing (up to and including bench level repairs) of media production equipment with a mechanical aptitude, preferably within a television station, mobile production truck, or studio/production/rental house
  • Experience installing and integrating equipment into racks, wiring, labeling, documentation, and testing signal flow as designed
  • Ability to maintain professional composure during time sensitive troubleshooting and and improvise quick solutions
  • Intermediate level troubleshooting skills and testing methodology
  • Understanding of audio and video signal measurement and standards
  • Proficient with electronics repair equipment such as soldering irons, DMM, analyzers and power tools
  • Must know how to fabricate and repair common cables and connectors (BNC, XLR, RJ45, etc.)
  • Ability to read and execute tasks based on system and wiring documentation with AutoCAD/Vizio/etc.
  • Ability to produce and maintain basic system and wiring documentation with AutoCAD/Vizio/etc.
  • Ability to read schematics and signal flow charts
  • Excellent organizational skills including multitasking and attention to details
  • Self-starter and able to work independently
  • Service excellence orientation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required


You'll be preferred if you have:
  • Understanding of computer networking
  • Understanding of codecs and post production
  • Understanding of control room production technologies and process
  • Experience operating or repairing analog motion picture equipment
  • Familiarity with professional color standards
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace
  • WebCheckout or similar equipment scheduling and ticketing software
  • Affiliation with professional groups such as SMPTE, SBE, etc.


Work Environment:
  • Varied work environments (office, equipment/machine room, maintenance shop)
  • Maintenance shop with lack of windows
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods
  • Ability to work in difficult physical positions or bodily contortions
  • Duties include frequent moving and lifting of objects that are 50 lb. or less
  • Use of chemicals common to electronic equipment maintenance and repair (epoxies, lubricants, solvents, soldering flux, etc.)


Grade of Position: A15N

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Salary: $52,200.17



This position will be exclusively represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 888 for purposes of wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
