Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Dean of Admission position. The Assistant Dean of Admission is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $54,752-commensurate with experience. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Assistant Dean of Admission is a critical role within the Amherst College Office of Admission and the Visitor Relations team. The Assistant Dean leads important efforts for campus visitor programs, and with the entire Admission Office seeks to recruit, admit, and enroll a talented and diverse student body.

The Assistant Dean holds significant responsibility as a member of the Visitor Relations Team, spearheading efforts around campus tours, information sessions, and more. The Assistant Dean also works with the paid student tour guides. The Assistant Dean serves as one of the members of the admission committee and is a full contributor throughout the admission cycle. The Assistant Dean is responsible for recruitment and outreach both on and off campus.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Admission

  • Conduct presentations for groups up to 250 visiting prospective students and their families
  • Develop recruitment strategies and coordinate travel in assigned geographic markets
  • Cultivate relationships with high-school counselors and Community Based Organizations within specific geomarkets
  • Work in pairs or as part of a team to evaluate first-year and transfer applicants
  • Oversee application evaluation within assigned geomarkets
  • Participate as a voting member of the admission committee
  • Oversight of assigned recruitment travel and communication

 


Visitor Relations

 

  • Play a leadership and strategic role with all campus visitor programs, including information sessions and campus tours
  • Collaboratively recruit, hire, train, and manage an outstanding and diverse group of paid student tour guides
  • the Associate Dean/Coordinator of Visitor Relations
  • Serve as an engaged member of a creative Visitor Relations team

 


Diversity Outreach

 

  • Collaborate on and be a thought partner for on-campus open house programs

 


Qualifications

Required:
 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Driver's License and successful credentialing is required in order to operate college vehicles
  • Experience and commitment to working within a diverse and inclusive environment
  • The ability to work with diverse constituencies from varied racial, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds
  • Strong presentation skills; can bring to life programming that tells the story of Amherst College and the liberal arts to a diverse audience
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to communicate effectively with varied constituencies, including prospective applicants, parents, high school counselors, alumni, faculty and staff
  • Proficiency in the use of productivity software such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Workday, and Zoom
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and think independently while working in a dynamic team environment
  • Excellent time-management, presentation, and organizational skills with consistent attention to detail
  • Travel approximately 15 - 20 days for recruitment (may include international travel) including driving to/from high schools and college fairs for recruitment


Preferred:

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience with admission management systems such as Slate
  • Experience working with a web content management systems (CMS) and web analytics
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English
  • Experience working with on-campus programming
