Description
Ethics Lab at Georgetown University invites applications for a one-year, full-time position of Assistant Professor of the Practice in design / creative pedagogy.

Call open until position is filled. Preferred date for application submission is July 24, 2022.

Who We Are

Ethicists ask questions about how the world should be. At Ethics Lab, we tackle the challenge of how we get there.

Ethics Lab is a unique team at Georgetown University developing creative methods for students, policy teams, and organizations to build ethics into their work. Our approach combines deep expertise in moral philosophy and the creative methods of design to develop educational exercises and facilitate conversations that surface the values at stake in emerging, complex situations. This work is active, multidisciplinary, highly collaborative, and centered on the development of socially responsible practices and policies.

The Opportunity

Ethics Lab invites applications for a one-year, full-time Assistant Professor of the Practice in design, creative pedagogy, or related fields. We seek candidates with an outstanding record of creative practice, including experience at the intersection of design, technology, ethics, and social impact in a professional, educational, or community leadership role. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in and capacity for facilitating creative exercises across a wide range of entry- to upper-level undergraduate courses (philosophy, computer science, policy, environmental science, etc).

The Action

As a member of the team, you will be a key contributor to Ethics Lab's development of creative methods and novel practices of ethics. Working closely with Ethics Lab's philosophers, you will co-lead a portfolio of educational projects focused on issues of technology, ethics, and society, including the collaborative design, development, and facilitation of creative learning experiences in undergraduate and graduate courses. You will provide a supporting role to some of Ethics Lab extra-curricular projects, including engagements with external research teams and partner organizations.

Qualifications
The Must Haves:
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience developing and delivering creative teaching & learning experiences for young adults / professionals (examples could include academic courses, youth creativity programs, adult education workshops, community convenings, etc)
  • Demonstrated interest in the intersection of tech, ethics, and society

Application Instructions
The application process has a few stages that we expect to move briskly through.

To get started, please respond to this expression of interest form and upload it to our post on Interfolio. Based on their expressions of interest, select candidates will then be invited to an information session with Ethics Lab staff (via Zoom) to answer any questions about our current work and the specific role a designer plays on the team.

Following the information session, candidates are asked to submit additional information to Interfolio:
  • a portfolio featuring examples of their creative practice and evidence of collaborative design, development, and facilitation of creative learning experiences
  • a resume or curriculum vitae
  • contact information for three references

The hiring committee will then invite select candidates to discuss their previous experience and current interests in further detail. Following this interview, the committee may be in contact with the candidate’s listed references. All candidates will be notified when the position has been filled.
