The Assistant Director for Strategic Communications will be responsible for the development and execution of the communications and video strategies that promote the seventeen (17) sports programs at UNC Greensboro. The position will focus on strategies to enhance and protect the brand reputation and navigate the rapidly changing world of communications to aggressively position the department to take advantage of opportunities to continue to grow the brand on the national level.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field is required.
- 5+ years of experience in Public Relations, Public Affairs, Media, Broadcast Communications, or a related field is required.
- Must have professional experience in media relations, strategic communications, video streaming, and creative content.
- Significant budgetary and full-time staff oversight experience is required.
- Exceptional verbal, writing, and editing skills with incredible attention to detail.
- Must be proficient in AP style.
- Excellent oral, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must have strong relationships with top tier national media and a proven track record of media/social media success.
- Must have experience managing complicated assignments with multiple contributors, editors, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated reliability and ability to perform under deadline pressure and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with conflicting deadlines.
- Must possess outstanding interpersonal skills; able to build and maintain effective working relationships, with the energy to inspire others.
- Must possess a can-do attitude and a willingness to work for the betterment of the team.
- Must be a proven strategist.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Familiarity with media and standards of media relations.
- Extensive experience in public relations and previous experience in a public higher education institution is preferred. Experience with collegiate athletes is highly desired.

Key Responsibility:Development & Execution of communications, video and social media strategies
Essential Tasks:The Assistant AD for Strategic Communications will serve as the department spokesperson and direct oversight of the areas of strategic communications, video, and social media. The position will work closely with the Department of Athletics leadership and University Communication to develop and manage all strategic communications plans including department positioning, messaging, issues management, and crisis communications. An expert writer and communicator, this position must ensure accuracy and consistency across all mediums. This position will place a high priority on understanding issues affecting the Athletic Department and the University by anticipating multiple potential strategic outcomes.
This position will foster strong relationships both on and off campus with local and national media, community leaders, campus leadership, staff, coaches, and external organizations. This position will define and direct communications activities including but not limited to: press releases, talking points, leadership messaging, op-eds, pitch letters, and fact sheets. The Strategic Communications position will identify both news and feature stories working collaboratively with the University Communications team.

Essential Tasks:Oversee the Spartan Radio Network, Spartan All Access Webcasts, and Spartan Sports Link.
Game Day Operations (including but not limited to) – photography, statistics, press box/row, pre-and post game releases, etc.

Essential Tasks:Supervise, recruit, train, and maintain a staff of four (4) full-time employees. In addition, this position will recruit/maintain volunteers and student workers who will serve as statisticians and interns.
